Decorating a Flocked Tree

Nature-inspired tree

It's the most wonderful time of the year!

That  means you're going to see more from me in the days leading up to Christmas because I have SO many creative ideas to share with you!

Let's start with this tree, shall we? I've wanted a flocked tree for a long time.

When I stumbled across a small one at my local thrift store, I was beyond excited!

After removing all the outdated tinsel, I realized I had a problem....the tree stand was broken.
When it comes to DIY solutions however...I'm your girl! Affiliate links are added for your convenience. You'll find my full disclosure policy here.

I grabbed a plastic beach bucket, inserted a brick and some floral foam, and 'planted' my tree in the pot! It was sturdy and held the tree upright and was a great solution.

Using a bucket as a tree stand

To cover the blue pot, I used a large square of burlap and layered it with a green chevron fabric because I didn't want the blue to show through the holes of the burlap.

I tied it with a length of jute and it looked like it was meant to be just.like.this!

Decorating it was fun...and cheap!

I sprayed the tips of some large pine cones with white spray paint and while the paint was still wet, sprinkled on Diamond Dust (glass glitter) that I already had.

Spray painted pine cones

Because the flocked tree is so dense, it was easy to just poke the pine cones into the tree.

The rest of the decorations were mostly things I already had...jumbo craft keys hung on gingham ribbon..

...large jingle bells from the dollar store about three years ago, that I lightly painted with white chalk paint...

...bird's nests that I've collected from our yard..

...little chalkboard clips from the dollar spot at Target.

...and this gingham Family sign found at Michael's post-Christmas sale a couple years ago.

I found these burlap star string lights at Cost Plus World Market at the end of the season last year and it adds to the natural ambiance.

The only items I purchased were the berry picks (dollar store), the deer (in the mini hanging cloche) and red truck with tree (dollar store).

I love how it all came together into this sweet little tree that is unique!

If you're not a collector of natural materials, I challenge you to start looking for things to gather. Pine cones, birds nests, shells, acorns...these can all be used in your home decor to make something beautiful!

And if you have your heart set on a flocked tree like this one, you just may find one here:
