Welcome to our New Home!

Oh my goodness, have we been busy! We moved into our new home over the weekend and have been busy busy busy unpacking and finding a home for all our stuff! I haven't been able to blog as we don't have WiFi set up yet...so I'm sitting at a local Starbucks madly trying to get this post put together so I have something recent to share with y'all!

new home

If you follow me on Instagram, you'll have seen a few pictures of our new home already. I'm not quite ready to share many inside pictures yet (still inundated with big cardboard boxes), but I do have a few I can share with you, starting with this one.

rain tree

I absolutely looove the curb appeal of our new home! It has big, mature trees like this gorgeous rain tree that is currently blooming.

The back yard has more large trees. There's a large live oak, a pecan tree (I see lots of pecan pie in Mr Diy's future!), and several ginger plants! I'm not sure if they're edible or not...would love to know if any of you have grown ginger!

back yard

Those four windows along the back are an addition from years ago...the three on the left are a sunroom off the main living room, and the other window is a flex room off the master. I'll be setting up my office in that room.

The home has a large, screened patio. It's currently looking sad and empty because we didn't bring our patio furniture with us...but as soon as it gets some style, I'll be sharing it with you! I'm sure we'll be spending lots of time enjoying the patio once the weather cools down a bit. It's still in the 90's currently :(

front door leaded glass

Back to the front, isn't this front door awesome? I love the natural wood, and the leaded glass is stunning. I can't wait to welcome friends and family to our home!

Let's take a peek inside...

dining room

When you walk inside, the dining room is on the right and there's a sitting room on the left. It's difficult to see from this photo, but the moldings are so pretty in this room! They are engraved and make this room so special! We haven't had a formal dining room ever, but this space will be more farmhouse cozy than formal! I know this space will be the location of many good eats, laughs and new memories around the table.

The home's interior is painted a sand color. While it's nice, and fairly recent...it doesn't match a lot of my furnishings. I'll slowly repaint most of the rooms. Picking a color is hard. I know I want to go greige, like I had in our TN house. It's fresh, modern, and looks wonderful with my neutral furnishings and blue accents.

I want to be completely unpacked before I start that job though.

I spent yesterday unpacking my boxes of china (including my milk glass and English ironstone collections), and filling my antique black hutch, the very first piece I ever painted with diy chalk paint!

It was fun to come up with a different way to display the pieces. I moved most of my ironstone dinner and lunch plates to the kitchen because I want to actually use it! In our last house I mostly forgot that I had it...it just filled space in my hutches.

While we were packing up our TN house, I downsized quite a bit, and sold many pieces, including my beautiful white hutch that I loved. I agonized over the decision to sell it because a lot of work went into making it beautiful (you can see the dramatic before and after here). In the end, I knew I probably wouldn't have space for it, and in choosing between the black and white hutch, I felt the black one fit my style better (and as a bonus, it has more storage). I was determined to keep only the things that I loved and knew I would use. Having too much stuff is a burden and I found it was stealing my joy and just causing frustration. What's the sense of having a bunch of things if you don't use them?

By downsizing, I'm able to display the pieces I really love and actually have some fun playing around with the placement, rather than just trying to cram it all in!

I was so happy when I unpacked my DIY gather sign and immediately set it on the black hutch. If you want to make your own farmhouse sign, I've got a tutorial here. And even though we just moved in 4 days before the writing of this post, it feels nice to have one room looking somewhat ready! Thanksgiving is creeping up on us, the whole family will be home, and I want to be ready as much as possible.

I hope you enjoyed this little glimpse into our new home! I'll be continuing the home tour in subsequent posts and would love to have you follow along!

  1. Your house looks lovely! It does have great curb appeal. We are just getting ready to move too, but ours needs lots of updating. It is still stuck in the 1970's! Can't wait to see all your updates!

  4. Absolutely love it! I'm in awe that you found a house with such character here in Texas. They are few and far between.
