About ME

I am so thrilled you are choosing to spend some time here at diy beautify!

 cindydiybeautify (at) gmail (dot) com

My name is Cindy Long, and I'm the owner and blogger, photographer and creative mind behind this little blog! My love of creating started when I was just a little girl, playing with my grandma's button box! The colors, shapes and designs provided endless inspiration. As I got older, I loved art class, sewing and baking. But it wasn't until I married Mr DIY in 1992 and moved into my own home that my creativity really took off!

I learned that creating a beautiful home can be done even on a teeny tiny little budget! I realized the joy that comes from filling your home with handmade items, and how it adds warmth, personality and coziness to the spaces you live in!

Mr DIY is very supportive of my creative passions and he's my biggest fan and encourager. He helps with the heavy lifting and is always open to my crazy suggestions! We've been married for 25 years and I love him more today than the day I said "I do"!

God has blessed us with three amazing kids. They challenge us, keep us on our toes, have given us gray hair (!) and remind us that life is short...and we need to embrace it.

God has taken us on an incredible journey! We've lived in 2 countries, moved 8 times across 5 states, coast to coast. In fact, as I'm typing this, we recently relocated from TN to TX! Mr DIY is a Pastor and we have had the privilege of serving the Lord and loving people wherever we've lived. It hasn't been easy to move, but we've been blessed with each one!

I'm an introvert and a homebody who has had to embrace change (believe it or not, I don't like moving!). What I've learned along the way is that a house is just a house...until a family moves in and makes it a home! I've loved bringing my creative touches to each home we've lived in, making it cozy, unique, full of personality, meaning and full of us.

Just like you I struggle to look perfect, act perfect, have the perfect home and family...but that's not realistic. That struggle for perfection is something I'll never achieve and it certainly doesn't bring joy.

In fact while I'm typing this, my home is a mess, my roots desperately need a touch up and my 'to do' list is so long I'm afraid I'll never get it all done.

Back to that whole 'perfection' thing...we're by no means a perfect family. We struggle, we fight, cry and laugh, our home is always messier than I'd like, and I need to be reminded that God loves us just as we are..right now..and I need to do the same with these precious ones that I live with! Learning to embrace imperfection is all part of the journey!

We're all on a journey. Ephesians 2:10 says that "We are God's workmanship, and we've been created to do good works which He planned for us long in advance!"

This blog is a journey. As I share my DIY projects, tutorials, shortcuts {even some mishaps and mayhem} and budget saving tips for making your house beautiful too, I hope you walk away feeling encouraged, inspired and blessed!

Here's a Design Manifesto that I believe in with all my heart:

Join me on this journey as we create beauty together.

One of my very favorite things about writing this blog is interacting with others around the world! Please feel free to comment, ask questions, and even tell me what you'd like to see me post about. I'm always on the lookout for inspiration and do-it-yourself fixes to share with others!
