About Me

Welcome, I am so happy you are here!
If creating a beautiful home seems out of reach, I hope I can inspire you to see that it's not really about what's in your wallet, but how you approach decorating. Some of my favorite items were found at thrift stores, barn sales, Craigslist, and even the side of the road! A beautiful home on a budget is DO-ABLE my friend, and I'm here to help you achieve your home goals!
If you're new here, I'm Cindy, a wife of 31 years, mom to 3 grown kiddos and a cute little furball. I love that first morning sip of creamy coffee, I love crisp mountain air and spending all day reading a good book! I grew up in Canada, met my American hubby at college, and wound up moving south of the border to the US a few years after getting married!

Jesus is my source, my hope and the author of my journey. If you ever have questions or prayer requests, don't hesitate to reach out! Life is hard. Jesus makes it worth living ❤

Our journey

Mr DIY and I met at Bible college in Canada. He was a youth pastor for many years before becoming a family pastor. I never wanted to move but God had other plans for us! We've lived in Niagara Falls, Canada, California, Oregon, Florida, Tennessee, Texas and now Mississippi!

Our kids were all born in different states and we are so proud of them and thankful for the mature adults they've grown into! After nearly 30 years working in churches, Mr DIY was laid off due to the pandemic. We made the decision to move closer to family, and planned to move back to TN but wound up in a rental at the top of MS!

The last couple years have seen a lot of transition - our oldest got married, our youngest moved away and got engaged, our middle son just moved away too - so we're recent empty nesters.

I'll be honest that during all our recent transitions these last couple of years, at times my faith has been shaken and I struggle to conceive of what the future could possibly hold for us. I've been spending more time in God's word this year, and I know three things to be true... He is always faithful, He will provide, and my security needs to be firmly rooted in Him, rather than a home. I'm so thankful that God is good, all the time, even when I can't see it! When I trust him with all the things, he provides peace and sustains me.

What this blog is about

This blog is a journey about making any ordinary home just a little more beautiful. As I share my furniture updatesroom makeoverscraft tutorials, decorating shortcuts and budget saving tips for making your house beautiful too, I hope you walk away feeling encouraged, inspired, blessed and motivated to try some of these ideas in your own home!

Each of our homes has been a blank canvas for me to try new ideas, and yes I've had a few failures along the way! My style continues to evolve but my love of creating is a part of who I am.

A word about those annoying ads

I know they can be intrusive and I apologize. The thing is, they provide an income so that I'm free to stay home and do what I love to do - create, decorate and document it all here for you. I don't charge you to watch my videos and read my tutorials so I hope you'll be able to see past the ads to my awesome content! Consider this site as a visual online magazine (they have pages of ads too!) and appreciate the energy that I put into creating free content for you

    1. We used Sherwin Williams Repose Gray for the panels and we have a creamy white for our trim! We've actually used this lighter gray color throughout our home and love it!

  7. My son and his wife just moved from Texas to Tennessee, just a little East of Memphis and South of Nashville. They are loving it. I am planning a trip back to see them in October. Love your decorating style, and I have been a DIY/crafter for many years. If I can see it, I can make it kind of gal. Wishing you the best in your move, and prayers that you will get the home you have chosen.

  8. Not too far from Hendersonville myself. Mooresville, NC to be exact. I haven’t been to that area yet but very close. It’s quite pretty up that way. Never got into the blogging thing but I sure love to decorate! I too have had a love since I was a child. I have been and still am obsessed! We got married in 1996 so just a few years after you and also have 3 children. Mine have been out of the house for many years now and all have families of their own. I have 7 grandchildren that I just love more than anything but don’t live near any of them except for 1 that comes and lives with me over the summer while taking his summer break from college. He and another granddaughter actually lived with us most of their lives as well as my daughter who divorced young. I am actually in my forever home now and still redecorate all the time! Life wouldn’t be the same if I wasn’t changing something! Good luck with your move and welcome home!
