Ornament Wreath

I Couldn't Help Myself

Just because I got a little carried away cruising Pinterest today...and it led to this wreath...it in no way means that I am done with Thanksgiving! I have started pulling out a little Christmas here and there and am making it work together with my neutral Thanksgiving mantle and my Thankful for Bountiful Blessings chalkboard art until the end of the month :)

I find it interesting that Thanksgiving falls just before the "season of greediness'...yet somehow it seems to get overlooked in favor of Christmas. Hmmm, do you think it might be a ploy by retailers who don't want us to think about our blessings and how grateful we are to have so much? Maybe they're afraid that we might not spend as much at Christmas?

Just saying...food for thought!

So today I was thoroughly inspired to create an ornament wreath. I was in Target yesterday and, on a whim, bought two tubes of mini ornaments from their dollar spot. Cute, vintage looking ones, glittered and faceted. I thought I had enough for a wreath.

Um, no. I realized that as soon as I poured them out into bowls.

But then I happily remembered the two bags of vintage floss ornaments that I had recently found at Goodwill for $.99/bag. So I brought those to the table. But they were big...and would look terribly goofy with just the minis.

So I had to make a trip upstairs to the attic and root around the Christmas boxes, looking for the one with the ornaments. I pulled out all the small ones that I've had for ages and really have grown tired of - now I had a use for them!

With my big pile of ornaments in front of me, I grabbed a wire hanger and unbent it into a circle shape.

Note to readers: wire hangers are totally coming back into fashion! Not for fashion, but for crafting!!

I spent the next hour threading my ornaments onto the hanger, alternating sizes and colors. I still didn't have enough to fill the wreath so I had to cut my hanger short, but I think it turned out SO cute.

I added a vintage glittered angel that was in the box of ornaments and seemed to suit my wreath perfectly. I have a thing for angels at Christmas! I bought this little beauty at Marshalls a couple years back. I also added some soft pink ribbon to the top to help hide the hanger wire, and to hang it from :)

Of course one thing led to another and before I knew it, I had a little Christmas vignette set up in our piano room. The ruffle trees were made a few years ago and have held up well. I'll have to share a tutorial soon!

The colors of the wreath are perfect for this room, as it already has pinks, blues and white slipcovers in it.

I realize looking at these pictures that my wreath seems like a solid mass. It's really not, it does have a hole in the center, but I think against the mirror and with the little angel in the middle, it appears to be fuller than it actually is! Total cost of this project - $5 (not including the angel).

I realize that I haven't show you a lot of my home. We've lived here for less than a year, and there's still a lot to be done...plus, with three children, it's usually rather messy, lol!

I think however, it is time for the Piano Room Reveal.  You've got a little teaser today; I hope you come back tomorrow for the full reveal!
