Carving out a Crafty Space in Your Home - Get Creative!

A space to create

Having a pretty and functional space to craft, sew and create is essential for me.

Years ago when my boys were little, the dining room table was sufficient. However, since my love of crafting has grown...so has my need for a space that I can call my own.

Here in TN I've utilized a wall and a corner of our bonus room.

Updating a Thrift Store Jewelry Chest with a Spray Painted Pattern

This post follows on the heels of my previous one where I showed you how I updated storage boxes with paint.. Both are projects that I did as part of my Master Bedroom makeover.

This jewelry chest was a thrift store find but it was just blah. It had a long scratch across the front drawer, dirty handles and I knew I wanted to do something with it, I just didn't know what.

Transform storage boxes with chalk paint for a modern look! diy beautify

I know I promised to share some of my projects in the Master Bedroom when I shared my Stenciled Wall and Master Bedroom Reveal with you!

But then life got in the way and all my time was spent on planning and projects for my son's Graduation from high school and his big Grad party.

That big crazy week is now behind me and I can get back to all the other projects that are waiting for me, such as sharing this upcycle and how I painted these boxes to give them a modern vibe.

Hi friends, well, I survived graduation weekend! We attended my son's baccalaureate, watched him walk the stage and receive his diploma and hosted his grad party. It was an emotional weekend but I am so proud of his accomplishments and achievements. I thought I owed you a quick recap, especially if you stuck with me all last week and made it through all my graduation project posts! So, here are a couple pictures.

Graduation Projects that You Can Make!

Homemade Fondant and DIY Grad Cupcake Toppers

Wednesday, May 14, 2014

If you're looking to save money on your child's graduation, consider making your own cupcakes and even graduation-themed cupcake toppers!

This was my first time making my own fondant, and in future I'll buy it rather than make it because it gave me a lot of problems. Luckily little Diy has been to a few cupcake decorating parties at a local shop, Faboo Cakes, and learned all the basics.

So, armed with my trusty little girl's knowledge, a mountain of powdered sugar and sheer will power, I set to work.

Planning the Perfect Grad Party

If you've been following along, you know my oldest is graduating from highschool. This Friday is his official ceremony. I've been busy these past few days, cleaning, trying to de-clutter, and planning for his grad party on Sunday night.

We're hosting a drop-in party in the evening. We'll have finger foods, cupcakes, and other easy-to-fix foods.

Luckily my wonderful mother-in-law will be here to help with the food! She is amazing in the kitchen.

I admit that the majority of my focus has been on the decorations (um, craft and DIY blogger, so no guilt here!).

Learning to Let Go (one Mother's Thoughts)

You know that feeling you get when the inevitable is approaching...it's a good thing, you even want it to happen...but your heart just doesn't agree?

In a few days the first 'little birdie' will graduate from high school and in just a couple months, he will leave the DIY beautify home and move away to begin a new life at University.

I am proud of him. I am excited for him. It is inevitable.

So why does my heart ache?

I've made tiered dessert stands in the past and I love them!! I currently have two, and they're big - great for cookies and brownies and even a cake! They get used a lot.

When I was stalking browsing blogs last week and saw this great anthropologie-inspired dessert stand by Like a Saturday, I fell in love with them all over again!

An Old Mirror Gets a Fun Fresh Makeover

Charming Mirror Makeover

I can't help it...

When I see these old wooden pieces from the thrift store, I just can't pass them up. Even if they're dusty and grimy and scratched. Even if the mirrors are a little fuzzy.

While others see something destined for the trash...I see something with the potential for great beauty.
