Thursday, April 30, 2015

Welcome to Week 5 of my One Room Challenge. There's only one week left before all the participants share our ORC Reveals! We're in the home stretch now!

I turned a few pieces of molding and some antique glass door knobs into a stunning door knob hanger. Get the full tutorial at DIY beautify.

I've got the basics covered in the Guest Room I'm making over. I've already bought, painted, and installed the following:

Say YES to Family Game Night

Tuesday, April 28, 2015

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions about social media, family time and awesome snacks are my own. #GameNightIn #CollectiveBias

I had one of those moments recently. You know what I'm talking about. I looked at my kids and found myself in shock at how fast they've grown. We don't have much time left with them before they're grown up and gone!

Bake up some easy treats, pull out the board games and spend some quality time with your kids! Find these awesome ideas at DIY beautify

Exciting Announcement and DIY Solution to an Unsightly Problem

Friday, April 24, 2015

When Tasha from Designer Trapped in a Lawyer's Body put out a call for contributors late last year, I crossed my fingers and filled out the application.

Imagine my excitement when Tasha notified me that I was selected to be one of her 2015 contributors. Tasha is not only a lawyer, but a fabulous DIY-junkie just like me (see her $700 kitchen remodel).

I'm so excited to share my very first post at DTLB today. It's an easy DIY solution to disguising an ugly electrical box....one of the first things you saw when you entered our laundry room.

I not only disguised it, I created some vibrant, graphic artwork that looks right at home in the space. Here's a little peek at what it looks like now.

Many of you have enjoyed seeing how Mr DIY and I infused Farmhouse Charm into our builder-grade laundry room for under $200. If you missed any of the action and want more, you can read all about our Farmhouse Modern Laundry Room Makeover by clicking on the following links.

Whew. That's a lot of projects! I'm taking a little break over the weekend and will see you back here on Tuesday with a fun idea for Family Game Night.

Arizona and Cupcakes

Monday, April 20, 2015

Hi friends. It's been a restful week for us as Mr DIY and I spent it in Arizona. The sun shone every single day and I definitely got a healthy dose of Vitamin D. As someone who suffers from Seasonal Affective Disorder, being in the sunshine was so restorative!

We lazed by the pool most of the week, biked along the streets of Old Town Scottsdale and generally took it easy. If you follow me on Instagram, you've seen some hilights. If you haven't, here are a few pictures...

Bright, hot sunshine speaks summer to me. There are some foods that just say 'summer' to me too...things like corn on the cob, watermelon and cupcakes!

Little DIY asked me to make Watermelon Cupcakes recently, after she saw a watermelon cake on an episode of The Profit (she's 10...but it's one of her favorite shows!). So I did a little searching and put a couple recipes together to create my own version. It was a huge hit and these Watermelon Cupcakes are a little taste of summer that can be enjoyed all year!

I'm sharing this tasty recipe today over at McCall Manor; I hope you'll join me over there.

An awesome tutorial for planting faux succulents by 3 Little Greenwoods for DIY beautify

Good morning friends! I have a treat for you today. Since I am basking in the Arizona sun this week with Mr DIY, I've asked my friend Ashley from 3 Little Greenwoods if she would share a project with you today!

Ashley was one of the very first 'bloggy' friends I made. She is super sweet...and super talented! No one else can pull together a kids birthday party better than Ashley! Her site is full of fun and colorful inspiration for your home and I hope you'll check out her blog. Take it away Ashley.

Painting an Oak Bed (One Room Challenge: Spring 2015 Week 2)

Thursday, April 9, 2015

Wow, I'm so happy this project is done! Welcome, I'm delighted you're choosing to spend a few minutes of your day with me! Grab a diet Coke or another cup of coffee and let's take a look at this bed transformation.

Today is Week 2 in the One Room Challenge at Calling it Home blog. If you're not familiar with this challenge, several bloggers are taking just 6 weeks to transform a room in their homes.  Last week I shared my Restful Guest Retreat Inspiration Board.  My goal is to create a space that is calm, restful and cozy for my guests to relax in. That means bright colors will be very minimally used; it's all about soothing neutrals.

Mr DIY and I bought this gorgeous Victorian Mansion bed as newlyweds (23 years ago).

Hello Spring Sign Tutorial

Hello Spring sign tutorial | DIY beautify

As I was getting started on my spring cleaning this week, I got side-tracked by some craft supplies.

If you know me well, this is nothing unusual...I run from cleaning like a gazelle from a hungry lion! And while I should be going to the gym...that's about all the exercise I've been getting! Crafting is so much more fun!

I can't remember where this mat came from...but I pictured a project. A Spring sign.

Guest Room Makeover (One Room Challenge: Spring 2015 Week 1)

Thursday, April 2, 2015

I must be crazy...I haven't finished my Farmhouse Modern Laundry Room makeover yet...and I'm starting on another room!

But I just couldn't resist. Have you heard of the One Room Challenge event? It's where 20 bloggers make over rooms in 6 weeks and then hundreds of other bloggers join in as linking participants. This will be my first year linking up to this event...I was excited to join and feel like I needed the motivation to get this Guest Room Makeover off the ground!

I've only got 6 weeks to pull this off! Wish me luck.
