Festive and Collected Front Porch

Today I'm sharing my budget-friendly Christmas front porch, decorated on a budget with thrifted and clearance finds that I've collected over the years. It's a little bit vintage with classic Christmas colors!

Welcome to my festive front porch tour! I have teemed up with a talented group of home bloggers and we're all sharing our Christmas porches with you over the next 3 days! Thank you to Amy of Atta Girl Says for organizing this tour! You'll find all the links at the end of my post and I know you'll be inspired, especially if you need ideas for your own Christmas porch!

My porch is an eclectic mix of found, thrifted, DIYed and creative thinking!! I didn't want to spend a bunch of money on Christmas decor for outside, so I found ways to use what I already had, purchasing just a couple items this year.

I pulled it all together with very little effort! Green, red, black and white will always be classic Christmas colors!

I shared a video tour of my porch on Instagram this weekend that you can still catch in my highlights if you'd like. Yes, we really got up to nearly the 80's! The Texas weather has been crazy this year!

I think the key to my festive porch is layering! From the rugs to the tables and the crates, adding height and interest with different elements, both in color and size, makes for a very merry welcome at the front door!

If you follow me on Instagram, I shared tips for painting a chair (you can still find it in my highlights!). This white chair with the hole in the seat was given to me by a friend. I used the same chippy paint technique on it as I did to my chippy spindles. It's an easy way to create a vintage look to anything wood and has become one of my favorite ways to bring an old look to my pieces!

chippy paint technique

I added a small flocked tree in an olive bucket into the hole in the chair for a quirky but charming effect! Other small trees were stuck into various buckets and baskets.

The white houses were a Target clearance find a couple years ago. The houses were light wood with white and blue metals roofs. I wanted them to all look the same, so I spray painted them white and while the paint was still wet, sprinkled epsom salts onto the roof for a sparkly, snowy look!

I have a bunch of smaller trees that I use around my home. I brought most of them out to the porch this year, tucking them into wire baskets and buckets! It adds a very farmhouse, country Christmas feel, and it gives each tree a little more oomph! I wrapped the base of the tree above in a vintage feedsack before tucking it into the green wire basket.

My JOY sign was a very simple DIY and it says HOME on the back, so I can keep it out all year! I love using my Silhouette machine to make easy signs like this one!

This little step was a garbage-day rescue. It's perfect for adding a layered look!

Can you believe that both the black side table and rocking chair were rescued on garbage day? My neighbors put out some good stuff!! I haven't done a thing to either one of them, I like the chippy, rustic look.

More trees and houses and lanterns were added. At night, I'll light flameless votive candles in the houses. And you can see that I've changed out the accessories a couple times!

turn a garland into a wreath

I purchased a small piece of picket fence at a flea market last year. The pip berry wreath is actually a small garland that I wrapped into a wreath shape and hung from a picket. These burlap-wrapped jars were a summer project a few years ago, but I find they work with any season and they make beautiful Christmas lanterns!

I love collecting because it makes for a unique home. Nothing looks store-bought or exactly like what you'll find in the catalogs. I find that a collected home feels cozy and inviting...kind of like when you step into your favorite junk shop and never know what you'll discover! (Mr DIY would agree that our home often resembles a cluttered junk shop 😉 especially because I am known to make a terrific mess when I'm 'inspired', but strangely enough the clean up part of the process doesn't inspire me...and often takes awhile to get to!)

I found this cedar garland at Costco for an amazing price, and it was long enough to drape over my side door as well. My front door wreath is about to change really soon! I'll be adding a fresh wreath from Lynch Creek Farms. They're in the Pacific Northwest and their products are all handmade from PNW greens! I cannot wait to hang it up! Be watching my Instagram feed because I will be giving away one of their wreaths this week to a lucky follower!

  4. Your porch looks amazing, Cindy! I love that you found so many interesting things to use on trash day. My friends laugh at me for examining trash piles but I don't want to miss a treasure! My basement definitely has the cluttered junk shop look as it's where I store my treasures that I'm not currently using. I so much enjoyed seeing your porch and look forward to seeing more of your home this Christmas season.
