Hey there friend! Welcome to Monday morning! I hope you're doing well and that your family is safe and healthy...and hanging in there! I'm calling it Recipe Week because I'm going to share some of our family's favorite, easy recipes with you this week, starting with our favorite chocolate fudge pie.
Chocolate Fudge Pie
If you like chocolate pudding pie, you will LOVE this pie! Our homemade chocolate fudge pie doesn't require any special ingredients...in fact you probably have everything in your pantry already to bake one of these chocolatey, gooey pies! My mother in law shared this recipe with me when Mr DIY and I got married, and we've been making it ever since. It's so easy to make, and we all love the rich, fudgy taste!
In fact, to prevent my kids and Mr DIY from fighting over the last slice, I like to get up early in the morning and enjoy the last piece with a cup of coffee for breakfast! 😋 I call this the perks of doing the work!!
So I had every thing on this list to bake the pie except for the evaporated milk. I did a little Google research and discovered that you can substitute half and half (or even heavy cream) for the evaporated milk! I always have a carton of half and half in my fridge for my coffee, so that's what I used.
I make a few tiny alterations to my mom's recipe, as you'll see below. You'll also find a printable recipe card after the recipe!
Tools needed
You'll need a pie plate, a medium size bowl, a whisk and a spatula to mix up the filling for this chocolate fudge pie.Ingredients for Chocolate Fudge Pie
- unbaked pie shell (prepare and set aside)
- 1-1/4 cups white sugar
- 4 T cocoa
- 1 T flour
Whisk the above ingredients together in a bowl until no lumps remain. Then add the following:
- 2 beaten eggs
- 1/2 cup melted butter
- 1/2 cup half and half
- 1 tsp vanilla
Scrape all that gooey, chocolate filling into a prepared pie shell and bake at 350° for 45 minutes*
*Note: my oven bakes hot, so I adjust the temperature to 345° and lower the baking time to about 38-40 minutes. You don't want to overbake this pie! Once the edges are pulling away from the crust slightly, it should be ready.
About halfway through baking, I top with a piece of tin foil with a circle ripped in the center to protect the crust from getting too brown.
Let the pie cool down!
You're going to want to dig in right away because your house will smell amazing! But let the pie cool down first (it sets and tastes better that way).
Such an easy recipe.
ReplyDeleteHusband has quite the sweet tooth so I know he is going to love this.
Tip: Save your foil and use a foil pie pan. I just go to Dollar Tree for foil pans & get the small & larger sizes. Just cut out the center and you have a nice rim to put around your pie to cover the crust.
No 'print' link so I just printed out your hand written version.
Thank U 4 sharing this easy peasy recipe.
Enjoy your day, stay safe & stay healthy
Thanks Colleen, and that's a great tip to use the foil pie pans!
