Hi friends, Fall is in the air! I went for a walk outside this morning and it was 70° with a light breeze. Wow, did it feel good after the triple digits we had in July! I'm ready for Fall and will slowly be bringing you lots of inspiration, crafts and decorating ideas!

Speaking of inspiration, it's time for Pinterest Challenge, hosted by my friend Cindy of County Road 407. Every month she gives us a different image from Pinterest and we all put our own spin on recreating the look! There are so many talented bloggers in this group, and I love how all the looks are unique! If you're visiting from Simply 2 Moms, welcome! We're so happy to have them join our group! Be sure to visit all the links below.

Our inspiration image this month comes from Janelle Trinkett. She shares a simple process for putting together an autumn inspired basket filled with all the goodies of the season!

My takeaways

The things that inspired me about this image were: woven basket, fall napkin, pumpkins with texture, wood element and a warm and cozy vibe.

Decorate a fall basket with pumpkins and leaves

Janelle shares the step by step process for decorating her Fall basket, and I thought you might enjoy seeing how mine came together using the same process but obviously different items.

I put together a picture collage because I always think it's fun and helpful to see a side by side progression!

I started with a woven basket, just like Janelle used. I love the texture and warmth that woven baskets add to my home! I picked this one up at HomeGoods several years ago.

We just moved to Mississippi, and are still unpacking, so we have a ton of packing paper! I used some to stuff the basket as Janelle suggests, so my pumpkins had somewhere to rest.

I found this pretty watercolor napkin from Goodwill many years ago. After folding it into a triangle shape, I tucked it over the edge of the basket. I like how it softens the edge but carries the autumn vibes with those pretty apples.

Next, I tucked in two stems of these leaves I found at Hobby Lobby. I do have wheat but it's in one of my Fall bins in the garage and I didn't have time to unpack it. These leaves are bold and large, so just two stems nicely filled in the back of the basket. They have that wonderful fall color, as well as some attached twigs and pinecones for more texture.

I tucked in three different pumpkins to the top of the basket - my easy,10-minute or less pumpkin spice  loop yarn DIY pumpkin, a woven pumpkin, and a wood carved pumpkin. Varying the angles that the pumpkins are sitting gives additional interest.

Finally, I tucked in one of my DIY farmhouse sunflowers that I recently made. These cute primitive flowers got lots of great feedback on Instagram when I shared them over there! I just added the video tutorial to my YouTube channel, you can watch it here. If you prefer written directions, watch for that coming to the blog later this week!

At the base of my basket, I added a small piece of live edge cedar, topped it with a book stack, and scattered more pumpkins around. Don't you love all that texture?

Most of these are pumpkins that I've DIYed, like my drop cloth pumpkin, the pinecone pumpkin, and the crochet chain pumpkin  (you'll find written as well as video tutorials when you click the link). All the texture adds warmth and those yummy autumn vibes that make it really start to feel like Fall inside, no matter what's happening outside!

I couldn't resist this cozy throw from Target when I was shopping with my daughter for dorm room supplies. The oatmeal color is just right and I think it's going to be my favorite lap blanket this season! This past week, Mr DIY and I went from a family of 4 to empty nesters (sob) but it'll be fun to have control of the remote again 😉

I hope you're inspired to decorate a fall basket with pumpkins and leaves after seeing just how easy it is! You probably have most of these items in your stash already.

  3. Your version turned out perfect. Love that it's next to a chair and the colors and napkin are so pretty! I never think to make a vignette next to a chair or any seating but I adore the idea. I think it's because of the dogs. Nothing is safe around here if it's below 4 feet. Except lemons. They think those are trying to kill them. ;) Glad you could join in this month.

  7. Cindy, your fall basket turned out great!!! I especially love your sunflowers... I have a ton of scraps from making sofa covers (and this was like seven years ago!) and I could strip some of the leftover pieces and definitely make some! I'll be looking for your YouTube and post. <3

Enjoy your sweet basket and happy (almost!) fall,
    Barb :)
