Do you have a garden planted? I love this time of year when everything is bursting into life and bloom! We've been enjoying fresh salad greens and herbs from the garden.

I decided to transform my kitchen coffee bar with garden theme decor including inexpensive flower art from the dollar store. Come on in and let me inspire you today with this early summer vignette!

It's also Pinterest Challenge day, which is where the inspiration for this flower themed decor came from! Thanks to Cindy of County Road 407 for coming up with the themes each month. The group works from one inspiration image and comes up with ways to recreate the look in our own homes. I love that each one is unique and you'll be able to see what everyone else did (and follow the links to their sites) below.

If you hopped over here from my friend  Cindy's unique garden inspired cubby, welcome to you! I'm Cindy and I love all things home. Add garden theme decor to coffee bar or console table

Inspiration from Pinterest

The inspiration image is bittersweet as it's from my friend Michelle of The Painted Hinge, who sadly passed away last year. We in the decorating community miss her and her unique vintage style! Michelle had such a flair for combining multiple items to create a cohesive whole. I mean, just look at this eye candy!

I love Michelle's style and knew I wanted to try to recreate her springtime entryway as closely as possible. Here are my take-aways that I'm using to decorate my garden themed coffee bar.

Key elements

  • long white cabinet
  • large white piece hanging on the wall
  • apothecary type cabinet
  • vintage elements (flower frogs, wire baskets, scale, books)
  • terracotta pots
  • greenery and flowers

The room I focused on is our kitchen breakfast nook because I already have the long white painted dresser in place as a coffee bar. I also have an antique chippy window hanging over the dresser, which helps to give weight to the vignette.

I don't have a long wood apothecary type cabinet like Michelle used, but for Christmas last year I bought myself a tabletop antique pie safe. I love the vintage feel, the wire openings and it's a great piece to show off some of my white ironstone smalls.

By itself, the pie safe felt a little small. I needed more brown. That's when I remembered I had a vintage cabinet with drawers that Mr DIY bought for me when we lived in Florida. I normally keep the drawers filled with acrylic paint bottles in my studio, but emptied it out and set it next to the wood pie safe. They're almost the same height and I like that they're both darker wood tones.

These types of cabinets are so useful around the house to hold small items like teabags, craft supplies, office supplies and more!

SHOP CUBBIES

I love violas, violets and pansies but couldn't find them at our garden center. I'm thinking they may not do well here in Mississippi. Instead, I bought a small flat of white vinca flowers and planted a couple into some of the French Inspired Seedling Pots I painted a couple years ago. I tucked a couple of plants into the cabinet drawers, like Michelle did. I really love how this looks!

I added pots of plants and herbs that I planted earlier this year, including sage and pothos ivy like Michelle used (a great plant for indoors that is almost impossible to kill, and it's super easy to propagate with cuttings!). Mr DIY bought me a beautiful orchid for my birthday in April, and I added it to a wire basket.

You can create a similar look with all faux greenery and flowers if you don't have a green thumb! Check out some of my favorite inexpensive florals and greenery from Amazon!

SHOP FAUX GREENERY

Basically I tried to add lots of visual interest to this spot! Michelle's console table is chock full of goodies and I wanted to create the same feel. I'm someone who gets overwhelmed with clutter, so after I enjoy the decorated coffee bar for a couple weeks, I'll probably pare the decortions down so I can enjoy it longer 😉

I realized that my vintage kitchen scale is the exact same one that Michelle used! I remember finding this for only $8 and couldn't grab it fast enough! I stacked a couple thrifted books with green covers and added the scale on top...I was running out of room on my dresser!

On top of the cabinets I added more decor, some real vintage flower frogs and the Vintage Inspired Bottles with Cinnamon Rusted Lids I recently made.

DIY Dollar Tree Garden Themed Wall Art

Michelle has some floral stems hanging from her chalkboard. I decided to hang some inexpensive floral art from my antique window.

It was as easy as painting and staining some Dollar Tree frames and then inserting floral pics I found and printed from The Graphics Fairy.

When you apply dark furniture paste wax over white chalk paint, it transforms into the color of warm wood! The brush strokes add wood grain. It's so easy to do, check out this Restoration Hardware DIY Wood Vase I painted from a thrifted find.

To easily hang the framed pictures, I taped some jute twine to the backs and hung them from small nails. This idea is an easy way to inexpensively add some seasonal wall art to your home! You might also enjoy these affordable wall art ideas:

  9. Cindy, grouping your little cabinets together is such a cute idea. I love that they are not exactly the same size, because that just adds to the charm! Your garden display is put together beautifully, and I love how the dollar store frames turned out too!

  10. Cindy, I thought I left a commnt yesterday evening but it may not have stuck... So, I wanted to say how much I liked the little pie safe with the small dark wooden drawer cabinet! They go together really well and anchor your display. It's cool how you have that massive window behind and the same grocery scale! Love how everything turned out in your table vignette!!!

    Happy almost summer,
    Barb :)
