If you love a curated home, antiques are a great way to add character, warmth, interest and the feel of longevity! Vintage and antique pieces have history and stories, so using them to decorate our homes adds character and a sense of home.

So what to do when your budget doesn't allow for authentic antique pieces? I'm going to show you how to create the look of an antique on a shoestring!

Use Coffee Stain to Give a Primitive Look to a Printable

This flea market printable is one that I've created, and it's available to my subscribers for free! You can use it as is, but today I'm sharing a simple and easy way to give a black and white printable a vintage look in just a couple of steps using common ingredients you probably already have.

Supplies

*if you are already a subscriber, you have access to my Printables Resource Library for free! Look for the link in Sunday's newsletter (or email me for the link). If you're not a subscriber, you can sign up here.

Tips for success

You will need to print your design using a laser jet printer. If you use an inkjet printer (common at home), the ink is not water soluble and will bleed and run when you apply the coffee stain. I print at either Walgreens or Office Depot, depending on who has the best coupons and deals at the time.

This Flea Market printable is my own design available to subscribers for personal use only.

Right now the printable is black and white, but I'm going to show you in my video exactly how to grunge it up using coffee stain. This original recipe is from my friend Tracey at My Sweet Home Living. Use it to add primitive, vintage color to fabric, wood, paper and more!

Coffee Grunge Stain Recipe

1 cup hot water
1/2 cup instant coffee
2 Tbsp vanilla
2 Tbsp cinnamon

Use the cheapest ingredients you can find! Add them to a mason jar with a tight fitting lid and shake to combine. Store in fridge. When ready to use, heat up in microwave for 30 seconds.

DIY Sign Tutorial

Be sure to watch this video to see how I added vintage, grungy style to this printable! Can you believe how fast that was?

It took just a few minutes to turn a bright white sign into a weathered, antique looking piece that adds warmth to my home! The little bits of rust are instant coffee!
