Decorating our home for Christmas is a highlight of the year and I'm thrilled to share more of our holiday home with you today. My old fashioned Christmas tree and home tour was a colorful burst of holiday cheer. I shared tips for achieving an old fashioned Christmas using a mix of new, old and DIY! Today I'm sharing ways I've added classic red and white to my home this season and I hope you're inspired!

I've been a participant in the Christmas Home Tour hop, hosted by Marty of A Stroll Thru Life, for several years. This year she is recovering from bypass surgery and I know would appreciate your prayers for a speedy recovery. Thanks to the Ann(e)s of Simply 2 Moms for jumping in and helping to coordinate the tour. This is a week-long hop, with new tours each day of the week. You'll find all the links below.

Christmas Home Tours 2023

If you hopped over here from Jen's tour at Midwest Life and Style, a special welcome! I know you loved Jen's secrets to styling a warm and homey Christmas! I'm Cindy, a long-time blogger and lover of all things home. We are currently renting a home in north MS while waiting for God to show us where our next home will be! I haven't let being in a rental stop me from going all out with seasonal decorating! I would be so honored if you chose to follow along, you can sign up here to join my weekly newsletter ❤

Decorating with classic red and white

To me, red and white is classic Christmas. It just feels extra merry and fills me with joy! Whether you decorate simply or abundantly, let me inspire you with my ideas.

Holiday Bedroom

When our kids were little, we always added a special tree in their bedrooms that was just for them. A couple years ago I decided Mr DIY and I were missing out, and I started decorating our main bedroom for the holidays too. You can look back through my Christmas library to see all my previous year's decorations.

Decorating your bedroom for Christmas doesn't have to be intensive, or even involve a full size tree! This year I kept it as simple as possible. I added a small tabletop tree to a red striped bowl I borrowed from my kitchen.

Red and white striped ticking pillows, and a red and white vintage quilt feel timeless and add the cottage feel that I love.

I left our blue curtains in place, as well as a couple blue pillows and while our room is technically red white and blue, I think it leans more Christmas than July 4, don't you?

Battery operated candles add a warm glow, layered blankets and pillows add to the cozy factor.

Nostalgic Hot Cocoa Bar

The breakfast nook in our kitchen is a favorite place to decorate. Our coffee bar is an old dresser from my in-laws that I painted years ago. It's a great place to add my Santa mug collection.

Everything is close at hand to put together a great mug of coffee or hot chocolate! Every year I try to pare it back, but it's hard! It just feels so merry, and it's definitely a fun place to visit every morning ❤

My new ornament cluster wreath hangs on the antique chippy window, I brought in the rag rug that was formerly in our daughter's bedroom, and added the chippy white spindle tree Mr DIY and I made inside an old coke crate I found at a yard sale this year.

I love the mix of new and vintage in this space, it reminds me of an old fashioned general store that I loved to visit as a child. The shiplap gingerbread cottage tutorial is coming next week if you're interested!

Favorite holiday dishes

Whenever I go thrifting, the dish aisle is probably where I spend the majority of my time! You just never know what you might find under a stack of ugly plates!

A few years ago I stumbled upon a stack of vintage red transferware Christmas dishes after the holidays, and I couldn't put them in my cart fast enough! This year I gave them pride of place in our black painted hutch.

I added some greenery garland at the top of the hutch, along with some thrifted crocks and berry stems. Red and white clearance napkins and a bowl of peppermints wait on the table.

The other side of our dining room has my primitive pine hutch stuffed with ironstone pieces, as well as our Christmas tree. It's decorated in blue and you can see more details in  THIS post.

I hope you've enjoyed my classic red and white Christmas tour! Renae from Peacock Ridge Farm is next up on today's hop, and I know you're going to love her French blue Christmas cottage tour!
