Problem solving
I was looking for a way to wrap some books in pretty scrapbook papers, but I
found the 12x12 paper was still too small to completely cover the book.
None of my Google searches solved the problem of how to use scrapbook paper
to completely cover a book of any size. So, I figured it out and that's what I'm so excited to share with you today!
Once you get the hang of it, you can have your books recovered in a matter of
minutes!

The easiest way to wrap any book in scrapbook paper
The books that I wrapped are a mix of hardcovers and paper covers. This tutorial will work for both. It also works for any size of book up to 12"! So let's get started.Supplies
- 12" scrapbook paper (2 of each kind per book larger than 5" wide)*
- paper trimmer - THIS is the one I have
- double sided tape OR use up your scrapbook tape
- invisible tape
- books to cover
- ruler and pencil
*Note: this tutorial will work for both the thinner paper as well as
heavier weight
Directions
Pick a book and lay it on a single piece of 12" scrapbook paper to see how it
will cover. You can see that this book below is too wide for one piece of
paper to cover. Let's fix that!
Joining papers
Here is an easy trick to join two identical scrapbook papers to make a larger
piece that will easily cover your books.
- Start by folding over one edge of one piece of paper
- Match the patterns of both pieces and overlap the folded piece on top of the design of the second piece
- Use double sided tape to adhere in place
Now our paper is the right size to cover this book!
Wrap book
There are a couple ways to do this. The way I'm demonstrating is the fastest
and easiest but the bottom and top of the cover will not be covered in paper.
I'll let you know how to fix that if it matters to you.
- Align book on bottom edge of paper, mark top edge of book and trim to size (Note: it's easier to cut the paper before you adhere the two pieces together!)
- Flip paper over and set book in the middle, ensuring that the folded section that joins the two pieces will be at the back of the book.
- Fold one edge 2-3" over the front cover
- Holding the book and paper in place, fold the other end over the back cover (you may need to trim a little bit of paper off the end)
Use the double-sided tape to tape the folded edges inside the book covers to
complete your book cover. The back, where we adjoined the two pieces of paper,
will look like so.
Note: If you want the bottom edges of your book to be covered, simply fold the bottom and top edges over. You will need to make a small snip at the spine.
I love how fast this project went and in no time I had 5 books covered.
These vintage floral papers give my thrifted books such gorgeous color and
charm! And saved me money, because I was ready to dish out over $100 to buy
the
Jane Austen Cranford collection
just because I was so in love with the vintage floral covers! That series is
still on my wish list, but I'll feel better if someone buys them for me, lol!
It's on my Christmas wish list.
I wasn't sure how complementary these papers were, but once the books were
wrapped, I couldn't love them more! The floral wrapped books give this corner
of my office feminine, vintage charm.
If you loved these floral paper wrapped books, stay tuned because I'll be
sharing another sweet book idea soon, and it's even easier!
