July 4 Wreath Makeover
Sometimes a little makeover makes all the difference! It's like getting your roots done. Everything looks new again!

Why was this little mini makeover necessary? Well, I got to thinking this week that I had nothing Patriotic to hang on my door.
Sure I had the vintage-inspired patriotic collage hanging I'd made...but it's not weather-proof so it
has to stay inside.
I didn't really need another wreath to try to find storage space for...so I decided to give a quick little makeover to my shabby dropcloth wreath.

All of the changes I made are easily removable because everything is simply attached with straight pins! I used the type that doesn't have a big ball on the end, I believe they're called dressmaker pins,
The trick is to start with a great straw wreath base. Next you wrap it in strips of cloth, pinning as you go. The flat head of the dressmaker pins virtually disappears! I used torn strips of drop cloth to wrap my wreath base.
Because this wreath already had a great neutral base with some vintage-looking ruffled flowers, not much more was needed. I unpinned and removed the green trim as well as the drop cloth ruffle. I reworked and pinned the drop cloth ruffle closer to the flowers so they look more like leaves. Pins are your friend when making a wreath like this!
Next, I grabbed some ribbon (gingham and polka dots are patriotic, right?), and tightly wrapped the ribbon around the wreath and pinned in place.
I made a gathered burlap flower using this simple method for creating a flower from a strip of pretty much anything and a threaded needle. Once you master this little flower (and it's not hard), you can stop paying so much money for cute fabric flowers and make your own!
I topped the burlap flower with a patriotic ribbon bow and a flower embellishment.
To finish it off, I stamped the number 4 onto a triangle of burlap with black acrylic paint and pinned it onto the bottom of my July 4 wreath with a silver star brad.
The result is a cute, original wreath that pays homage to Independence Day....but will be easy to change out when I want a new look!
It's a triple-win!
I'm happy, my door is happy...and my already stuffed storage space is happy!
