Christmas in the Kitchen and New Curtains

I'm sharing a corner of my kitchen decorated for Christmas today, along with some new gray striped curtains.

Christmas in the kitchen
If you've followed this blog for any length of time, you'll know how frustrated I was with the dysfunction in my former kitchen. It just didn't work!

My present kitchen is not really any bigger; however, it functions much better. Someday soon I'll show you details of what I'm talking about, but for today I want to share this little breakfast nook.

Two large windows form the corner on this side of the kitchen. It's great for light, but not so great when we're in the middle of a Texas heatwave. Those windows suck up the heat and make the kitchen feel uncomfortably hot.

We added these gray and white striped curtains from Lush Decor. They block light, heat and sound and are great for hot summer days because they keep the heat out of my kitchen. The gray stripes look fabulous with my newly painted walls.

I've been unsure what to do with this corner as far as furniture goes. For all intents and purposes it's a breakfast nook. We are debating adding a banquet along one window with a small table and a couple chairs...or do without the banquet and just go with a small table. Round? Rectangular? I'm not sure what would suit this corner best. The space is small and we don't want to overfill it with something that feels crammed. I welcome any feedback!

For now, I added a small round side table and chair to make it cozy for Christmas. It's also a great little spot to sit and pay bills, write a shopping list and open the mail.

The wind is blowing strong today and the little trees on my porch are falling over, so I brought them inside. I added one in my kitchen and I am loving it in a white enamel bucket I found at HomeGoods. I will probably make some gingerbread cookies to hang on the tree, that always smells sooo good!

Those baskets on the wall are from Decor Steals. They're one of my favorite online sources to find awesome farmhouse decor for my home. It's where I found my large bamboo mat that I'm using in my dining room. A couple of soft curtain panels are repurposed as table covers and make it feel a little like a French bistro! Mais oui, non?

During this time of the year I always have a scented candle burning, and try to keep the Christmas music playing...it puts me in the mood to bake goodies for my kids and Mr DIY. In fact, my famous almond bark is on the menu for today...it's a family fave!

Baking, gift wrapping and fussing with my decor are on my to-do list for today. Do you decorate your kitchen for Christmas? I shared some 10-minute decorating tips here.

We are looking forward to hosting Mr DIY's parents for Christmas, and having our oldest son home for several weeks. It will be a houseful, but the more the merrier right?

Later this week I'll share a quick and easy tutorial for a thrifty Christmas tree project that will be a great addition to your Christmas decor!
