I love words.

I'm not always the best communicator...but using chalkboards and signs in my home is a great way to add meaning and really put my heart into my decorating!

A sign can say so much and add both meaning and personality to my home! Here are a few ways I've used words in my home (click on the links for more details):

Chalkboards are one of my favorite ways to add meaning with words. The diy chalkboard that hangs in my dining room has said many, many different things over the years! I love that a chalkboard can be wiped clean and you can start over and say something completely different!

Chalkboards are the bomb!

There are times when you want the chalk look, but something more permanent! That was certainly the case with these canisters I use on a daily basis in my kitchen.

I bought these glass canisters because I loved the chalkboard area on them; however, they're large and heavy, and the chalk words that I carefully wrote were constantly getting smudged every time I moved them.

I finally got tired of the mess and decided on a more permanent solution...vinyl labels!

TIP: if you don't own a die cut machine, you could get the same look with white letter stickers!

I first measured the chalkboard area on the jars and then typed the words I wanted to say in the 'Design' area on my Silhouette, keeping it within the measurements I took.

Next I used my Silhouette machine to cut out the words in white craft vinyl. The trick to getting the words where you want them all in one piece, rather than letter by letter is transfer paper! This stuff is a huge time saver, and I use it all the time!

Did you notice that I chose the same font as I use on my blog? It's called Octavia Script and I love how it looks!

These kitchen canisters were definitely improved with the vinyl labels! And if I want to remove them down the road, I can peel them off and do something different.

TIP: use a wet rag to clean a chalkboard and prep it for something new

  1. Cool idea - I wasn't in a position to order the jars (as I live outside the US & they don't ship), but I added some of the Cricut chalkboard vinyl instead! I love the look.
