Good morning! It's that time of month again, when the At Home DIY group is sharing fun, easy, budget-friendly and thrifty ways to decorate your home! This month's theme is Home Improvement, so basically any project that adds value to our home...I can't wait to see what everyone else worked on this month; there will be a link at the end of my project for you to view them all.

I realized that I hadn't shared this weekend project with you yet. It was so simple, that it almost feels like it's always been there! We used leftover shiplap from our bathroom makeover on this small wall inside the entry to our kitchen. Mr DIY got this wall up in less than an hour and I painted it and then we simply rehung the mirror and peg hooks that were there before. I guess it was more like an afternoon project!!

Our kitchen has come a LONG way since we moved into our home! Sometimes I'm shocked when I look back! The kitchen walls and ceiling were dark tan and my farmhouse coffee bar was dark oak, which made it the first thing your eye was drawn to when you walked in the room (and not in a good way...more in a "wow, that's an awkward piece of furniture!" way).

Well, a picture says a thousand words so let me take you on a little journey of this corner. Apparently I was so eager to paint those walls that I don't have a great picture of this space. But this will give you an idea, and here is even a peek inside the laundry room which also received a thrifty makeover! You can see the updated laundry room here.

The walls, ceiling and floor were all the same peachy beige color and it felt very drab. It didn't take long before I painted the kitchen a light gray, and then that oak cabinet was painted and became a farmhouse style coffee bar. Finally the ceiling was painted white and it felt right. It felt like home! I need a 'This is us' sign for this space lol!

Do you see how that oak 2-piece in the first picture just screams "look at me?". Once I painted it (I mixed up some DIY chalk paint in the same color as our walls), it receded and became part of the room rather than the proverbial sore thumb 😉

The shiplap on the entry wall was just the icing on the cake!

And now it feels finished, and the beige stone doesn't bother me as much!

What a lovely space! I love the addition of the shiplap. I think painting the oak made a huge impact - good move! It's beautiful! I would love for you to share at our Homestyle Gathering link party via Serving Up Southern.
