Valentine's Day Front Door Decor Challenge

This cute paper heart Valentines wreath by Sky at Capital B was our inspiration photo. Sky's wreath is whimsical and sweet, from the twig heart shaped wreath form to the paper hearts cut out of cute Valentine's papers.

My challenge started immediately as I was unable to find a heart shaped wreath form. Amazon had some, but none with shipping that would get to me in time to make the wreath. I have constructed a heart shaped wreath form before from a wire coat hanger when I made my eucalyptus heart shaped wreath, but I needed something wider for the idea I had.

It just so happened that my friend Jennifer from Cottage on Bunker Hill shared an easy grapevine heart shaped wreath form hack...a very timely DIY for me...using grapevine garland!

I created a video tutorial for the Valentines wreath I chose to make that worked better with my style, and I'm including how I created a grapevine wreath form, decorated the air dry clay hearts and put the wreath together! Watch this and then come back for the reveal pictures and more wreath inspiration!

When you can't find something in the store, sometimes it's easier (and less expensive) to make it yourself! I created a heart shaped wreath from a roll of grapevine twig garland.

Clay heart "cookies"

Aren't those painted clay hearts, with the "sugar" sprinkles and glossy finish so cute? They remind me of sugar cookies 😊

The key to the glossy finish is brushing on this glaze, and sprinkling with a little Epsom salts while the glaze is still wet.

Attaching the clay hearts to the wreath base was a little tricky, as you can see in the video. But I did come up with a solution that kept those hearts in place!

As with the inspiration photo, I overlapped a few of the hearts. I also added a black striped linen bow to my wreath, and some dangling hearts in the middle.

I love my interpretation of Sky's paper heart wreath. The colors work with my blush winter decor and the simply sweet Valentines garland that I created for our painted brick fireplace.

I turned my chippy door around the reveal the turquoise back because I love how the blush pink heart wreath looks hanging from the antique door!

Head on over to Our Southern Home and see how Christy interpreted Sky's Valentine's heart wreath! And keep reading to see 18 more ideas for how to reimagine a heart shaped wreath.

  15. Hi Cindy! I love that you baked your hearts and yes they DO look like sugar cookies... :)' I love your Valentine's wreath and it looks so adorable hanging on the green door... Just cute!

I am going to steal your idea using the cabbage roses in the grapevine basket and put them on my front door for spring... I have some long-stemmed beauties I bought a number of years ago while we still lived in California. They used to sell them in the floral department of the Ralph's grocery store in Murrieta, where we lived! I bought 20, I think, and they are perfect for decorating all over!

Thanks for the new idea to use grapevine garland! New project ideas... ;)
    Hugs,
    Barb :)
