For my new visitors, I'm Cindy, a chronic over-decorator and lover of all things home, especially if it's thrifty! I also love to share favorite family recipes. I live about 20 minutes from the Gulf in a charming little Texas farmhouse with my family. But that's all about to change as we're currently packing up our home and getting ready for a big move! You can find out why and where here. My decorating style is a mix of cottage and farmhouse. I love vintage and antique pieces and a cozy home that feels welcoming to all who enter.

Spring dining room tour

One of my favorite things about blogging and sharing my love of home decor, is to help you save money on your home, so look for my Thrifty Tips sprinkled throughout this post to find out how to save money!

My Spring dining room decor usually starts with an inspiration piece, and this year it was these vintage rabbit salt dough ornaments that I created. They ended up looking like little pieces of vintage or antique art, and it was fun to add one to each place setting on my Spring table. I created little nests with Spanish moss and tucked them into ironstone bowls with the bunnies and a little egg.

Another DIY craft I recently finished just in time to add to my Spring table were these vintage style drop cloth carrots. Are you sensing a theme here? Rabbits and vintage goodies.

Thrifty Tip: Whether you own true vintage or antique pieces or you cleverly craft them, it's pretty easy to replicate this look for pennies! You can watch me make these rabbits on my YouTube channel here.

Let me back it up and show you the whole room and then we'll focus on more of the details and talk about saving money on your Spring decor.

Our dining room is one of my favorite rooms in our home, even though, if I'm being totally honest, we don't use it much for actual dining!

It has become a room for me to play with my vintage and antique dishes, move things around, decorate and style, and leave the mess out! Do you have a room like that?

I have a black hutch that I love to style. I purchased it from Craigslist about 9 years ago for only $60! It was the very first piece that I used chalk paint on. It was a DIY chalk paint and SO thick and chunky, I was sure I'd ruined the hutch! If you look closely, you can see specks of plaster of paris in the black paint, LOL! Even with all that, it's one of my most asked about pieces! Everyone wants to know where I bought the black chalk paint from. Back then, you couldn't purchase black chalk paint, which is why I went the DIY route (you can find my DIY chalk paint recipe here). Nowadays, it's easy to find black chalk paint.

My dining table and chairs got the same treatment after we found them at a Nashville flea market for only $270 for the set. I always prefer to purchase solid wood pieces even if they'll need a little love. Mr DIY helped me cut new plywood seats and make the cushions for them, and they are so comfortable. I recently recovered them with a $20 blue toile tablecloth that I found on Amazon!

Thrifty Tip: You can read about how easy it is to recover your dining room chairs here. It's something I do every few years when I'm ready for a change, but don't want to dish out big bucks for a new dining set.

Vintage hutch filled with collectibles

The black hutch is filled with either vintage white ironstone or blue transferware, all pieces thrifted for very little.

For Spring, I've added all my white bunnies that I've collected over the years. Can you spot my two new ones from Target's Dollar Spot?

Designer tip: remember that this collection didn't happen overnight, it took years to build. If you love something, start scouring flea markets, thrift stores, yard sales and even online sales like FB Marketplace. You can slowly start to build your own collection!

Thrifty Tip: If you love the look of a collected home, remember to mix vintage and antiques with new pieces! If you just glance at my hutch filled with ironstone, you might think it's all vintage. It's not! If I find a new piece and I love the color and style, I will buy it and mix it in with the older pieces.

Decorating a table for Spring

I made a drop cloth table runner years ago, and it's usually my favorite layer to use on my dining table. There are ruffles at either end, and the nubby look of the fabric just goes so well with everything cottage and farmhouse!

Thrifty Tip: Drop cloth is such a budget-friendly fabric for crafting and making home decor items. Here are a few other pieces I've made with drop cloth:

For the centerpiece on my Spring table, I added a long wood riser that I recently made with the help of Mr DIY. It's just an inexpensive piece of wood, with trim and cute feet. Once it was built, I painted the whole thing with white chalk paint and then distressed it a little with dark furniture wax. I got the idea from Emily at Le Cultivateur.

It's great being able to elevate the centerpiece, and easy to pick it up and move it when (if) we decide to eat at the table!

Garden inspired table

Spring is all about new life and seeing our gardens burst into bloom was the inspiration for my table. I laid a 6 ft lambs ear garland along the wood riser, weaving it around brass candlesticks.

I added a baby fern, painted and aged terra cotta pots, moss, robin's eggs, spotted quail's eggs and little pieces of faux lavender. Of course, the bunnies love to play in the garden, and this sweet bunny that just makes me smile!

Thrifty Tip: Make it your own! I bought two of these rabbits from Hobby Lobby, one is standing and one laying down. They were blue and fairly ugly but I spray painted them with gold paint to make them feel a little more classy and my style.

I couldn't decide which bunny I liked better on the table, so I gave them both a turn, lol! Did you spot those little mushrooms? I made those recently from clay and love their glossy tops and polka dots. You can find the simple tutorial here if you'd like to make some.

I also had to add this reproduction chocolate bunny mold that I just found at Marshalls because it was the perfect addition to my Spring table. This is a great example of my Thrifty Tip to purchase/make inexpensive items that have that vintage feel.

Here are a few other peeks around our dining room and some more Spring ideas and Thrifty Tips.

Fill a glass cloche with robins eggs

I had a bunch of Easter eggs in different colors and I painted them all blue and added speckles with black craft paint. Thrifty Tip: paint your way to a collection of Easter eggs! You can click here to see all my DIY Easter eggs. Some of the eggs were covered in fabric and when I pulled it off, the styrofoam eggs were kind of lumpy. But I painted them anyway, and they add texture to my collection!

Add faux Spring flowers to a rustic crate

I love contrast, there is so much beauty when you combine something rustic and weathered with something feminine and soft! These faux dahlias are amazing and so inexpensive, as are these faux tulips that I used on my Spring mantel.

Make an inexpensive wreath for Spring

This falls under Thrifty Tips because you can save so much money by making your own wreaths! And make it look just like you want!

Make an inexpensive fake cake

Making and decorating a DIY fake cake is super easy to do! Add a few faux florals to the top makes them perfect for Spring.
I hope you've enjoyed these budget friendly decorating ideas for a Spring table. Rachel at The Ponds Farmhouse is next on the tour. Her DIYed home is always an inspiration! Please visit the rest of the bloggers on the tour, you'll find all the links below.
