Adding Pretty Spring Touches in the Kitchen

I'm sharing some simple Spring kitchen decorating ideas, including a coffee bar and ideas for decorating that awkward spot behind a corner sink in this Spring kitchen tour.

Welcome to my Spring kitchen tour! I'm delighted to be joining Leen of Sand Dollar Lane for the Celebrating Spring Home Tour, along with 21 talented home decor bloggers. If you hopped over here from 2 Bees in a Pod, a special welcome! Vicki and Jenn are the sweetest and I am always inspired by their ideas.

I'm Cindy and I haven't met a home decor project or craft I didn't like! If I won the lottery, I would hire a live-in nanny to take care of all the day to day stuff I don't like to do (clean, dust, organize, cook) 😍 Sharing simple and thrifty ways to make your home beautiful is one of my passions! I absolutely love when you're inspired to make one of my projects and share the results with me! We live in Texas near the Gulf, in a home that has been my canvas for the last 5-1/2 years, but we're starting to pack it up and get ready for our next adventure! You can read more about our family here.

If you've ever wondered WHY bloggers get together to share seasonal home tours, here's a little secret...we like each other and are constantly inspired by one another! I know you're going to be inspired if you stick around and visit all the homes on this two-day tour! I'll link to everyone below.

Decorating a kitchen for Spring

We all live in homes that have quirks and my kitchen is no exception. It has some challenging areas and is always the most difficult room in our home to photograph because of the two huge windows in our breakfast nook.

However, it is the hub of our home, and the focus of this post and so I've put away the clutter and stacks of paperwork, cleaned the dishes and island and tried to take some pretty pictures to inspire you to add some pretty Spring touches to your own kitchen!

Decorating behind a corner sink

Because our kitchen is tight, I can't overwhelm it with a lot of decor (if you know me, you'll know this is a struggle! lol). The first space that I always struggle with decorating (for any season) is the large, awkward dead space behind our corner kitchen sink. My solution for the last couple years has been to use a large picture or wall tile to fill in the space. Here are some examples from other seasons from past posts - Tips to add style and function to a smaller kitchen and Christmas kitchen ideas.
For Spring, I was inspired to get this old wood caddy (built by Mr DIY from a pallet) out of the garage, sand all the rough edges, paint it white, and fill it with some pretty ironstone dishes and platters. And flowers, I must have flowers for Spring, although they're usually faux, like these peonies!

It's a simple touch, no maintenance, and fills that large corner in nicely without it feeling cluttered. If you have a similar sink setup, pick one large object (either a picture, sign, crate, etc) and then accent that piece with just one or two items.

Adding hints of Spring to a coffee bar

My coffee bar is an oak cabinet custom built by the previous owners that I painted to match the walls ( CLICK HERE to see how it looked before). It's such a great piece for storing and displaying coffee mugs, some favorite glassware, and a few Rae Dunn pieces.

The bottom is a separate piece with just a drawer, and I hung a little drop cloth skirt so I could hide things like bottled water, my Vitamix, even potatoes! This addition also adds more of the farmhouse cottage look that I love.

I kept the Spring decor very minimal because there isn't a lot of room to decorate here. Next to my coffee maker is a round tray (actually the bottom section of my tiered tray that I took apart) filled with a couple of green plants, a little ironstone plate and mug.

The bunny cutout is from the dollar store years ago. I like the vintage vibe so much I've hung onto it for years.

Spring decorated mug rack

When I purchased this wall mounted mug rack a couple of years ago, I wasn't expecting to have so much fun decorating with it. You can display and hang so much more than just mugs! While the pegs are very stiff, I have found I can carefully bend them slightly to adjust them when needed.
I hung some small ironstone pieces, as well as a few aged and painted pots for a touch of the garden here in the kitchen. A pretty wreath in soft pastels (similar here) and a baby fern complete the look.

Breakfast nook decorated for Spring

Our breakfast nook is a collection of mismatched pieces that have come together with paint. One of the painted chairs is from my childhood desk set, the other one I found on the curb. Both were painted with white chalk paint ( CLICK HERE for tips on painting a spindle chair). The table was a Craigslist find and the black bistro chairs are from Target.

I added a pretty ruffled neutral tablecloth and swapped out the red crystallized Valentines hearts (made from pipe cleaners and Borax - CLICK HERE for the tutorial) for chalk painted Easter eggs.

I picked the branches from my yard and piled them into a pretty ironstone pitcher. The woven basket is from Michaels (see similar HERE), the blue striped napkins from Target. Inside the basket I added a few eggs, vintage bunnies and some of my DIY drop cloth carrots.

You may have noticed the wall cubby in the background. This is another favorite spot to decorate for the seasons. It's a craft cubby that I repurposed to showcase some of my favorite small ironstone pieces and decor.
For Spring, I simply added some blue eggs, white bunnies, moss, a nest and a few vintage goodies (like the small jello molds).

I hope you enjoyed touring my Spring kitchen today and got lots of ideas for adding simple Spring touches to your own kitchen!

  1. Cindy- I love your Spring kitchen. You constantly amaze me, with all that you do with a house-move on the horizon! I literally laughed out loud when you mentioned how challenging it is to photograph your kitchen because of two windows. I have the opposite problem. My kitchen is in the center of our townhouse and has zero windows. I have pretty much given up trying to photograph it LOL. Much love to your and your family as you prepare for you next adventure!
