9 Ways to add Rustic and Cozy Christmas Style to Your Home

We recently moved from TX to MS and are still in that weird and chaotic stage of unpacking, trying to figure out a new town and neighborhood (and where to find stuff in the grocery store!) You can read more about our story here.

With all that going on, planning for Fall and Christmas in our new rental home is keeping me motivated! I love to create a cozy atmosphere and sense of nostalgia in the choices of Christmas decor that I include in our home and I'm sharing some of my favorites with you today! To read the full tutorial with supplies list, visit the links in the titles below.

1. DIY Chippy White Spindle Tree

I love chippy farmhouse, I don't care if everyone says farmhouse is out. To me, it will always be a classic way to decorate a home that feels lived in and loved. I used old spindles from a crib and chair to create this darling white tree and I'm so excited to pull it out again this year! And don't worry if you can't find chippy spindles - I share a super easy way to make DIY chippy spindles in just minutes here!

2. Vintage Santa Decor

Old and vintage Santa mugs have really made a comeback in the last few years. I've had fun finding new (and some old) Santa face mugs and using them to bring back that nostalgic feel of Christmas from when I was young! I decorated a primitive pine cabinet with Santa mugs, as well as a little flocked tree from Walmart  (currently on clearance!). I added greenery, striped ribbon and snowball ornaments and made an easy wood bead Santa garland using wood slices and printed vintage Santa faces.

Insider tip: to make easy snowball ornaments and decor, cover clear or white ornaments in craft glue and then dip into unscented Epsom salts. Hang to dry and then use on your tree or pile in a bowl!

3. Faux Grain Sack Vintage Inspired Advent Calendar

The countdown to Christmas is one of my very favorite things about the season! My kiddos are grown up and don't expect a chocolate candy (or Lego) filled advent anymore, so I made one for myself lol! You'll love how easy these are to whip up and my trick to a fuss-free grain sack look that doesn't involve paint!

4. Joy to the World DIY Vintage Sign

More people decorate the outside of their homes for Christmas than the inside, and I never like to neglect our front porch! This easy DIY Christmas sign is made from an old fenceboard and comes together quickly whether you use a diecut machine to cut out your letters or just freehand it!

5. Farmhouse Ticking Striped Wreath for $10

Ticking fabric is a farmhouse classic and this cute wreath is made from red striped ticking fabric! It's fast and easy to make (I believe I had the flu when I created this wreath!) and will look good for years to come.

6. Blue and White French Farmhouse Tree with Ironstone

My love of blue and white runs deep, so much so that a few years ago I decorated a blue and white tree and the results were oh so special! For ornaments I used pieces of my blue and white transferware as well as small ironstone creamers and cups. I added extra vintagey goodness by hanging the chippy white spindles I made from an old chair. Be sure to check out this post for my best tips on hanging your fragile and breakable china on a Christmas tree!

7. Ornament Wreath from New and Vintage Ornaments

Years ago I made an ornament wreath but when I pulled it out of the attic the next year, it looked like it had tangled with a wild cat! Do yourself a favor and make this wreath the right way the first time! I'm sharing the correct way to make an ornament wreath that will last, whether you use new or vintage ornaments, or a combo of both like I did.

8. DIY Beaded Wood Tray with Crackle Finish

This project is one that you can enjoy all year long, not just at Christmas! I love pieces that are multi-functional! Add a few candles and shiny ornaments and this tray becomes a stunning centerpiece. You can easily make this beaded tray for $20, which makes it an excellent choice if you're looking for DIY Christmas gifts to make! Getting the paint to crackle is easy to do and so fun to see the magic happen before your eyes!

9. Cozy and Charming Christmas Bedroom

As you're planning your Christmas decor, don't forget to include your bedroom! I've been decorating our bedroom for Christmas the last couple of years and love it! It's an easy way to make your bedroom a sanctuary at the end of a long day of baking, decorating or shopping! Twinkle lights, a small tree or two and cozy bedding (I love vintage chenille!) all add a magical feeling that will help you to stay calm and focused during this busy season.

I hope you found these ideas helpful as you think about how you'll dress up your home this holiday season!
