These ideas are easy, inexpensive, and fast to do!
Last Minute Halloween Decor DIYs
I don't usually do much decorating for Halloween, but this year for some reason, I was inspired! I put together a really fun and cute-not-creepy Halloween display on our built ins. Each of these ideas is easy to do, inexpensive, and most use supplies you can find at the dollar store or Walmart!I hope you'll try one or more of these Halloween ideas!
5-Minute Flower Pot Ghosts
Grab a few items from the dollar store to make these cute DIY ghosts! They
really do come together so quickly. If you want to make them stand on their
own, dip the cheesecloth into liquid starch (ring it out well) before
arranging over the head and arms!
Supplies you'll need:
- flower pot
- 2 styrofoam balls
- dowel
- pipe cleaner
- cheesecloth
- liquid starch (optional)*
- hot glue
- felt, black Sharpie or buttons

I added my DIY ghost to my bookshelf but these could easily be hung outside
from a tree or bushes!
Jack O Lantern Candy Bucket from an old pot
Repurpose a thrift store cooking pot into the cutest jack o lantern candy
bucket! Clean the pot well, then paint, add a jack o lantern face and ball
feet.
Supplies you'll need:
- screwdriver to remove handles
- white chalk paint
- large wood beads
- black spray paint
- vinyl jack o lantern face (or cut one from a black garbage bag)
- spray sealer
What a cute makeover right? And the spray sealer ensures the candy bucket can
safely be used outdoors!
Spooky Tree with Black Leaves
It couldn't be easier to make your own spooky tree! Just grab some dead
branches from the yard, pop them into a bucket, pitcher or vase, and hot glue
black leaves onto the branches!
Supplies you'll need:
- branches from your yard
- bucket, pot or pitcher
- black paint (I used this chalk paint)
- foam brush
- leaves from dollar store
- hot glue
I tucked in a few white berry stems from Hobby Lobby, as well as some fairy
lights, and just love how this easy spooky tree looks at night!
Cauldron of Bats
Did you know a group of bats is called a cauldron? I love that, it's so appropriate! These simple
cut outs are attached to the bookshelves with tape. I taped them in groups so
it looks like they're flying! I simply cut them out of black cardstock with my
Silhouette machine, but if you don't have a cutting machine, you could choose a simpler bat
silhouette, trace them and cut out several by hand. They look especially good
on a white background, although I'll be moving these outside to the front door
on Halloween!
Supplies needed:
- bat silhouette (search Google images)
- black paper
- scissors
- tape
Black and White Jack O Lanterns
These inexpensive candy buckets from Walmart got a whole new upgrade with
white spray paint! Just that simple touch makes them match my black and white
Halloween decor! I found it easiest to spray paint the whole thing white
(minus the handles), and then go back and paint the faces black with a detail
brush.
Supplies you'll need:
- variety of white spray paints (I used this one, this one and this one)
- black acrylic paint
- small flat detail craft brush
I will move these buckets outside the night of October 31 and put a battery
operated votive inside each one. I like how the variety of white spray paints
used makes each one look a little more special, you can certainly paint them
the same color if you want!
Man in the Moon Vintage Signs

here. You will need a vinyl cutter for my technique but if you don't have one
there are other ways to make this sign! Just do a Google search.
Simple Jack O Lanterns
I turned a couple white painted flower pots and white dollar store pumpkins
into super simple jack o lanterns by simply cutting out vinyl faces for them.
I added one of my
chunky drippy candles
to each flower pot, melting a little of the candle wax into the bottom of the
flower pot so they'd stand up straight. So easy but highly effective when
you're trying to make a big impact for very little money!
