The hardest part of this simple Autumn craft will be picking the perfect branch to use as a base for your paper bag leaves! Look for one with a little character. Mine has a definite bend to it, giving it a windblown appearance. You want your branch to have several smaller branches jutting out, as these will be where we will attach the paper leaves we make!

This is one of those projects where the supplies are minimal, which means so are the expenses! It doesn't get more affordable than this!

I've shared additional Fall paper bag crafts at the end of this post, be sure to check them all out!

Supplies

  • brown paper bag (you can use lunch sacks, a roll of kraft paper, or even Amazon packaging
  • sharpie or pencil
  • scissors
  • hot glue
  • real leaf to trace (I used an oak leaf)
  • foraged branch

Directions

Step 1
Start by opening up your paper bag. The easiest way is to cut off the bottom rectangle, and then cut it open down one of the side seams.

Step 2
Trace the leaf you are using. To make as many leaves as possible on my four lunch sacks, I varied the sizes, making some much smaller.

Insider Tip: stack 3 or 4 pieces of brown paper to cut multiple leaves out at once! Perfect leaves are not the goal, so don't worry about it!

Step 3 Scrunch the brown paper leaves with your hands, making them nice and wrinkly (this adds to the realistic dried leaf look)!

Step 4
Fold each leaf in half and create a center seam with your thumbnail, again adds to the realism.

Step 5
Add a dab of glue on the stem end of a leaf and attach it to your branch.

Insider Tip: it helps to have the branch standing in the vessel you will use, like this wicker wrapped bottle with a narrow opening that I used (see similar herehere and  here) as you glue the leaves to the branch.

Fill your branch as full of paper leaves as you'd like.

It's really that simple, and it's amazing how real these paper leaves look on the branch!

Wrap a velvet ribbon around the neck of the vase/jar you are using, and enjoy this beautiful centerpiece that you made!
