Pinterest Challenge - Coffee Tables
If you haven't guessed already, coffee tables are the focus of this
month's Pinterest Challenge, and the team is here to show you how to do it, no
matter your style or decor preferences! If you're new here, our leader,
Cindy of County Road 407, selects a different image from Pinterest each month. Then each of us
recreates the look in our own style. It's a great way to learn how to
interpret an image and recreate a look that you may love! When you scroll to
the end, you'll have access to all the great coffee styling tips from the
team!
If you hopped over here from
Rachel at The Ponds Farmhouse, welcome! Rachel's got so many fresh ideas that I always love.
I'm Cindy, a self-proclaimed, semi-recovering thrift store addict and collector 😁 My husband and I just relocated to a new town two weeks ago, and are still in the process of unpacking stuff (my stuff ha!) and finding things. IYKYK. Moving is no joke, and coffee is fueling me these days. Between getting to know a new area, meeting people, discovering all the quirks of a new home, and the endless unpacking...it is exhausting but we are making progress and I'm excited to show you our new home in more detail! I almost didn't participate in the challenge this month because I couldn't
find the legs to our coffee table! We are renting a much smaller home for a
year, and so lots of furniture and decor went into a storage unit. It's
packed full, and I'm pretty sure the table legs are at the back of the unit,
along with our other 2 kitchen chairs lol.
Modern Cozy Cottage Coffee Table Styling
Inspiration image
Our inspiration image comes from
Beth at Home Stories A to Z. You can tap the link to read Beth's tips for styling her vintage chic
coffee table.
I love Beth's style, the rustic neutrals are something I'm drawn to. Here are
the elements I knew that I could recreate for my own modern cozy cottage
coffee table - even without a coffee table! You'll be able to shop my style
further down.
- something wicker or woven
- neutral colors
- wood tray
- vase of greenery
- book stack
- something unexpected
Styling a coffee table by using a bench
You might not have a coffee table, but do you have a bench? I repurposed a
wood and woven bench, that has always sat at the end of our bed, as a coffee
table. It's not tufted, like Beth's, but it does have an interesting woven
rush top that adds the wicker element from the inspiration image.
Yes I know what you're thinking...I do have a plate wall up already in
the dining room, and I decorated our
primitive pine hutch for summer as soon as I unpacked my blue mason jars and milk
glass! Decorating small spaces has kept me sane amidst the unpacking and
helped this home to feel like ours.
Neutral colors
I chose neutral pillows and accessories, with a pop of blue, to style both my
coffee table and sofa as well as a
floral block print quilt in blues. The gingham pillow covers add that cottage feel and give the space cozy
vibes! I have taken so many naps on the sofa as we've all been settling in,
and pillows are a must.
Wood tray
I initially tried a galvanized tray with rope handles because I had already
unpacked it. But it didn't feel quite right. Next I tried a wood tray/crate
I've had for years. I love the little corner details, the neutral, distressed
color, and its square size made it a great fit for the bench. Using a tray to
corral a few items is a great idea, especially when your surface isn't
perfectly flat.
I normally follow the rule of "odds" when styling a tray, but I couldn't find
my box of larger candles. Instead, I added a cottage white chunky candle
holder, and the dupe
Anthro Minka pot
that I made using a dollar store find and craft clay. Click
HERE
to see that video tutorial. The two larger items add visual weight to the
tray. See...rules are made to be broken, lol!
Looking at the images now, I will go back and add a book under the vase and
candleholder to elevate them a little bit. That will compensate for the tall
sides of my wood tray.
Vase of greenery
I filled my vase with some faux greenery stems that have small white flowers.
I didn't quite have enough to add the fullness that is in the inspo image, but
you get the idea. Greenery (whether real or faux) always adds life to any
vignette!
Stack of neutral books
A stack of interesting books is always a great idea when styling a coffee
table. I added two of my favorite decor books,
The Art of Home
and
Cozy White Cottage. The neutral colors and content supports the theme of my coffee table
styling - modern cozy cottage.
Something unexpected
I felt like the coffee table needed a little something more. Beth has several interesting accessories on her coffee table, but my wood beads and smalls are still hiding in some box somewhere.
Instead, I added a clay bowl
(this bowl normally sits by the front door and is a dropping spot for Mr
DIY's keys/wallet/sunglasses!)
I love the texture and the nod to more modern decor. To add a cozy cottage
element, I draped several vintage doilies over the edge of the bowl. This
simple touch adds texture, softens the hard edges and gives the eye another
place to land!
The overall look is cohesive with my personal style. I really enjoyed this
challenge, and hunting around our new home and digging through boxes to find
items that I could play with!
Are you excited to style your own coffee table using similar elements? Walk
around your house and see what you have that you can use!
And if you look just a little to the right of this "perfect image", here is
proof of what my life is currently like lol.
