Hi there! Grab your cup of coffee or Diet Coke or whatever you're drinking, and join me today as I share a quick home decor post about some farmhouse feminine fall decor, along with a true life story!

For a long time, we were a family of 4. It was me, Mr DIY and our two sons. Life was full and centered around our boys and their sports! Mamas, you know what I mean, right? Weeknights and Saturdays at the ball field. I loved it.

However, some little voice inside my head (or my heart) said that our family wasn't finished yet...

When our boys were 7 and 8, we found out that I was expecting another baby and I cannot tell you how excited we were. We waited until I was about 10 weeks along before we took our boys out for dinner to tell them the exciting news...they were going to be big brothers!

A week later I lost the baby.

We were all devastated. And our boys? Well they were just confused. So many questions!

We knew we needed to do something tangible to help our boys cope with this overwhelming feeling of grief! So we picked up some helium balloons, wrote letters to our baby and tied the letters to the balloons. We took the boys to a local park and together we tearfully released our balloons.

Our older son Braden has always processed things quickly...and literally! "Mom," he said, "will those balloons and cards really make it all the way to heaven?" My heart broke a little as I told him that I didn't know, but I really hoped so.

Later that afternoon, our boys were playing in our large backyard. They had an area of pea gravel with a swing set, a climbing fort and other outdoor toys.

I heard Braden shouting and ran out to see how badly Kyle was hurt...he was our accident-prone child...every family has one, right?!

Braden was running towards me with a huge, multicolored balloon held tightly in his arms.

"Mom," he was shouting, "our baby got the balloons...and dropped this one down to us to let us know...that's why there's no helium in it, because it had to fall down from heaven!"

What? I thought, trying to process what had happened. That's crazy!

How on earth had this large, fully filled balloon landed in our backyard on the gravel no less, on that day, while our boys were outside...without popping????

All I can say is that it was God!

He knew what we were going through, the pain in our hearts. The confusion our sons were experiencing. I believe that out of His great love for our little, hurting family, He orchestrated that balloon to slowly drift its way into our backyard, to fall to the ground while our boys were outside playing...on the very day when it would make the biggest impact with our young boys!

We have shared our balloon story with others, and our son Braden even wrote a song about it in his senior song-writing class. I truly believe that our loss has been a source of blessing to others as we've shared this story with them.

It's a beautiful example and true life story of how much God really cares for us!

If you have questioned God's love or just aren't sure if there really is a God...and if there is, why would He care about you?, I'd love to talk more with you! If you've experienced a miscarriage or loss of a baby or child, and just need to tell your story, please feel free to contact me!

And to finish the story, a few months later I was pregnant again and went on to give birth to a healthy, spunky, beautiful little girl who is now 14!!

I hope you were touched as you read this story!
