Hello friends and welcome to a week of Christmas Holiday Home Tours hosted by Marty of A Stroll Thru Life. You are going to get so much holiday inspiration from over 30 bloggers who are sharing their homes all week long (all the links are below). If you're visiting from Grace in my Space, welcome! I know you were inspired by Sarah's neutral and cozy Christmas decor but I hope you're ready for an explosion of Christmas color!

I have been crafting up a storm this holiday season and I don't want you to miss out on any goodies!

Decorating with red and white Santa decor

This year I was inspired to decorate with a nostalgic theme throughout my home using items that evoke that childhood wonder of Christmas.

I started a Santa mug collection last year, and decided to devote an entire tree and nearby hutch to Santa. I set up a inexpensive Walmart flocked tree next to the antique pine hutch in our front sitting room. This room is rarely used and so I went overboard with the decor, setting it up to mimic something you might see in your favorite boutique thrift store. Mr DIY would call it clutter 😏 but sometimes you just gotta embrace the clutter!

It feels like a vintage Christmas. Each corner of the room has something that makes me smile, from the trio of cozy DIY Christmas trees decked out with red berries to the vintage inspired smiling Santa mugs hanging on my Christmas tree. This isn't the first time I've hung dinnerware on a Christmas tree! Check out my French farmhouse blue and white tree as well as last year's tree with ironstone saucers!

Christmas should feel abundantly Merry and Bright and Full of Cheer, right?

I kept my red and white decor as budget-friendly as possibly, using a thrifted wood planter that I painted white to hold my Christmas tree without the stand ( click here to see how I made my inexpensive DIY PVC and cement tree stand). This is a great way to save a tree that has a broken stand, or just a fun way to use a basket, bucket or crate instead of a traditional tree skirt.

Red and white Santa Christmas tree

My Santa Christmas tree is filled with red and white horizontal striped ribbon, inexpensive ornaments and a DIY Santa garland made from wood slices that I hung on a store-bought wood bead garland. Most of my ornaments are from Walmart and a few from the dollar store, plus I used all the red and white ornaments I have from past Christmases.

Do you remember what it felt like to be a kid at Christmas? The magic. The wonder. I think I've captured some of that magic here. This sweet teddy bear was a Christmas gift from my mom-in-law to my middle son his first Christmas 24 years ago!

Filling a primitive pine hutch with Santa mugs

I only started my Santa mug collection last year (and I might have to stop already because I have a lot!). Click here to see how I decorated with them last year. I paired these sweet mugs with some of my white ironstone and red and white transferware in my primitive pine hutch. I love pairing new with old, traditional with whimsical. I think it creates interest and definitely adds a curated feel to my home!

I threw the doors of the hutch open and hung red and white striped stockings on the doors. Old glass ornament snowballs (made by brushing white glue onto ornaments and then dipping in Epsom salts) fill an ironstone bowl and add to the magical feel. Can you believe that I found those red and white transferware Christmas plates at Goodwill a few years ago? I get so excited to pull them out for Christmas! Last year they were on my dining table, you can see that here.

I love playing with dishes and creating displays with all my thrifted ironstone that I've found over the years. Bottlebrush trees, red berries and Santa mugs all fill this hutch.

Here's a tip: not all my ironstone is genuine, some is white porcelain, but when you mix it in, it works beautifully together! Old and new!

Only a couple of my Santa mugs are vintage pieces, but I look for new ones that have a vintage look. Great sources are Hobby Lobby, Etsy and FB Marketplace.

I added a tiered wire basket to the top of a small dresser and filled it up with more Santa mugs, spools of red and white ribbon and bottle brush trees. A white tabletop tree from Walmart is wrapped with a red and white striped tea towel as a quick and easy tree skirt. I tied a striped canvas ribbon bow on top.

The challenge in this room is the blue painted trunk that acts as a coffee table. There is nowhere to move it, so I kept it in the room even though I wasn't sure the color would look okay with the red and white theme. After I looked at my pictures, I realized that the multicolor rug helps to tie all the colors together.

I piled the sofa with red and white pillows and a red throw and hung my DIY $10 farmhouse ticking stripe wreath on the antique arched window.

I just recently removed the DIY gather sign and hung my homemade faux grain sack advent onto the window frame. I'll be sharing that tutorial next week but here's a peek.

I think you'll agree it feels like Christmas in this room!

I bet it's even better in person. Merry Christmas sweet friend.
