Decorating a Warm and Cozy Fall Tree and Mantle
Tips for setting up and decorating a cozy and warm Fall tree with pinecones, pumpkins and velvet ribbon, a layered mantle and closer look at my 9' King of Christmas tree.
This post is part of a product exchange partnership with King of Christmas and all opinions are my own. My full disclosure policy can be found here.
Hey friend, we're covering a lot of ground in this post. I'm excited to tell you all about my new 9' tree that I received from King of Christmas. I added simple Fall decor to make this tree cozy and inviting, and work with the rest of the Fall decorations on my layered mantle. I hope you'll find some ideas to take away.
This is the first year that I've set up a Fall tree, and I am loving it. I am enjoying the twinkle lights as the weather cools slightly here in the South, and the days get shorter.
Decorating a warm and cozy tree and mantle for Fall
Why decorate a Fall tree?
As the weather starts to cool around the country and the darkness descends earlier, it can feel a little gloomy indoors. So why not set up your Christmas tree early with a few Fall accents. You'll enjoy the coziness of twinkle lights that always adds warmth and cheer.
By keeping the decorations very simple, it will be a snap to transform the tree once the holidays get closer, and a Fall tree is a way to extend the cozy during the cooler months.
King of Christmas trees
The tree I selected from KOC is the 9' King Fraser Fir Slim Artificial Christmas Tree. I have never owned such a tall tree before, but by choosing the slim version, this tree makes such a beautiful statement in our space-challenged home, without it feeling like it's overwhelming the space.
Owning a King of Christmas tree is definitely an investment, but if you're someone who loves to decorate for Christmas, you can be assured of a quality tree that will last a lifetime. I own both unlit and lit KOC trees. In all honesty, the lit versions are my favorite because stringing on lights is always my least favorite part of decorating a Christmas tree.
In my opinion, the lights are where the KOC trees really shine. Each segment is pre-lit with perfectly spaced LED lights that are energy efficient and have a life expectancy of up to 25,000 hours! And if you're someone who hates seeing the wires, the lights are hand strung so they blend in seamlessly and are less visible.
Having the lights done for me means I can have a tree up in no time, and get to the decorating, which is my favorite part!
Setting up my tree
Each King of Christmas tree comes with the following:
- a tree bag so you can ditch the box
- labeled tree sections so assembly is faster
- the tree stand
- long gloves to protect your hands/arms while fluffing
- instructions
- timer - more on that in a little bit
Assembling the tree couldn't be easier as each section is labeled. Once in the base, the branches fall down and can be fluffed. This helps to straighten out any branches that have been compressed in the box, giving your tree a fuller look. My 9' tree had 4 sections so I had to get Mr DIY up on a ladder to straighten out the tippy top branches!
One thing that usually happens when I'm setting up a tree is a lot of needle shed. I was very surprised that this tree didn't shed a single needle! I kept looking at the ground expecting to see a mess.
Decorating a Fall tree with warmth and coziness
I'm using a lot of warm seasonal colors in our home, and I wanted my decorated tree to complement the rest of the decor. I purchased a few inexpensive velvet pumpkin picks and 1/2 yard of fabric to make bows and some tiny pumpkins. But for the rest of the decor, I used items I already had like pinecones and velvet ribbon.
I started by placing the handmade bows on the tree, then filling in with the pumpkins and pinecones. Keeping the decor simple meant I had the tree fully decorated in about 10 minutes!
Decorating tip - Save time when decorating a tree by:
- Tie ribbon into bows and rest them on the branches
- Simply tuck pinecones into the tree, the roughness will keep them in place
- Use decorations on picks that can be inserted into the branches
I tucked a sunflower blanket around the base as a tree skirt, and nestled a couple of stools under the tree. Adding a DIY chenille pumpkin and a painted pumpkin with clay stem to the stools continues the warm and cozy Fall vibes.
Layered Fall mantle
Our mantle wall was a huge eyesore when we moved in because of all the open cubbies. I'll share a more in depth post soon of how it looked before and the steps I took to solve this issue. Layered pieces were the key to disguising the large hole where a box TV used to sit (our home was built in the early 2000's), along with the VCR and DVD boxes - remember those?
I added a single leaf garland in warm tones to bring in some of those Fall colors that I'm using on the tree. The mirror and shutters fill the mantle shelf, so I just had room to tuck a couple of pumpkins on each side, as well as my rustic bunny who sits out all year.
The warm colors flow from the mantle to the tree and it really adds so much coziness to our little rental home!
The tree lights are operated by remote, and there are many different modes to choose from. Right now I have the lights set to steady and I've dimmed them. It's just right for this time of year.
Depending on your taste, you can switch up the modes to reflect your personality! Here's one setting I'll never use, lol, but it's good to have options and it's as simple as pushing a button.

If you are looking for a smaller Christmas tree, I own the 7.5' Queen Slim Flock Tree, which is my absolute favorite! See this tree in my Magical Vintage Christmas Home Tour.
I also own the 7' King Noble Fir. You can see how I decorated this tree in my Old Fashioned Christmas Tree Holiday Tour.
And finally (yes, I love King of Christmas trees!) I own the 7' Prince Slim Flock tree. This is the one that usually winds up in our dining room. You can see how I decorated my Blue and White French Farmhouse Tree.
