Well hey there!

I meant to post my summer living room before the 4th of July, but decided to take a bit of a blogging break! Even creatives need to stop now and again to, you know, smell the roses! I have been enjoying summer activities with the family and put the projects on the back burner for awhile.

But I wanted to jump back in today and show you how to bring some simple Americana touches to your home! Click on any of the links in this post for a tutorial.

Our living room has undergone a tremendous transformation from the dark and dreary space it was when we moved in! We've painted the paneling and built ins, added a white wash to the fireplace and replaced the worn carpet with new farmhouse flooring

More recent updates include the two armchairs that replaced an old IKEA sofa and a beautiful new hi-low boucle rug. I love how it grounds the space!

I love decorating with neutral bones...you know, the expensive stuff! That way I can easily switch out pillows and decor to decorate for any season or occasion.

I use blue throughout my home, so bringing a little Americana was really easy to accomplish. And I did it all without spending a single red cent! 😃

Let me show you how I brought red white and blue to our living room.

Above the sofa I switched out the vintage baking racks for two white shutters. I used one of the vintage shutters in my dining room for a hanging mason jar display. A pretty blue and white quilt and pillows brings a hint of Americana.

What really sets it off is this whitewashed wood crate filled with vintage blue mason jars and a couple of mini flags. Nothing hard about this display but I love the character and patriotic feel it adds to our living room! The DIY chippy spindles add a little more character and charm.

Are you starting to see how you can think outside the box with decorating? There's no need to run to the store and buy ready-made decor! Shop your home and use what you already have!!!

Blankets, pillows and decor bring a few stripes to the occasion! I also brought in a footstool from our sitting room and topped it with a little fabric scrap ruffled flag that I made a few years ago.

So cute right? Did you know that when you're decorating your home, you DO NOT HAVE TO MATCH your colors! Blues in all shades are featured in my home, and in this room, and it adds a collected look that you will NOT get when everything is matchy-matchy!

I love to empower you to think outside the box, and not to be afraid to break the rules when it comes to decorating!! 😍

ribbon flag and farmhouse mantle

Speaking of breaking the rules...haha...adding a touch of Americana to my mantle could not have been simpler! First, you need to go see my Spring mantle here. Go check it out, I'll wait...

Do you see what I did? It took all of 5 seconds to replace my DIY Spring wreath with this sweet ribbon flag. Call it laziness but I just wasn't feeling like completely redoing the mantle decor. I love how it looks! This is simple Summer decorating at its finest! 😍 Keeping it simple is important when there are better things to do with your time!

The buffalo check pillow cover is from Returning Grace, you can find it here. The ottoman was a DIY project using 1 yard of fabric. You can find that tutorial here.
