Warm and Cozy Fall Living Room
Let me take you on a tour of our warm and cozy living room, decorated with lots of love for Fall, my favorite time of the year! Warm and natural fall colors combine with neutrals for a living room that is welcoming and relaxing.

Fall! I love the cooler weather (even if it's only indoors), the changing
leaves and the anticipation of Thanksgiving and the holiday
season that isn't too far beyond that!

In case you're new, I grew up in Canada and didn't move to the USA until I was
in my late 20's. The weather cools off much faster up north, and by late
August it could already be a little chilly. I grew up on an acreage in
Alberta, and the new school year always started after Labor Day. I still
associate the smell of bus exhaust with Fall and the start of school! Visiting
the pumpkin patch and choosing a real pumpkin, as well as hand pressed apple
cider was always a highlight of Fall when I was little.
Now that we're in Texas, Fall feels a whole lot different! It's still hot and
humid, often until November, so decorating for Fall means you crank the A/C
and just get to it 😉 Let me show you our living room all decorated for Fall!

Warm and Cozy Fall Living Room
Our home could actually be featured in the dictionary under the terms
'DIY', 'thrifty', 'bargain decorating' or even
'making it work'! Choosing to stay home when the kids were little and
multiple moves across the country on a single salary (you can read more about
our family's journey
here ) means that I've had to learn to scrimp and save and DIY my way to a
beautiful home.
What might have started off as stressful has turned into both a hobby and a
business that I truly enjoy and I would much rather have a home filled with
unusual pieces from around the country than have everything high-end and
matching from the furniture store!
When adding Fall touches to our living room, I try to keep it clean and
clutter-free because we use this room all the time! This is the hub of
our home, where we all gather together at the end of the day. It needs to be
comfortable and to function well. But I also like to make it pretty!
Our neutral furnishings work really well with any season, but particularly
with Fall decorating. I love to add heaps of pillows to the sofa and cozy
throws abound. Stripes and checks are great neutrals for decorating any time
of the year and I love the contrast of black with lighter colors. You can find

There's Millie, our sweet shih-poo pup who not only matches our decor, but has
finally learned to pose for pictures (for a treat of course!) If you're really
observant, you've already noticed the chipped fixture in the room! Somebody
was tossing a football in here, and we have yet to replace it - oops!
Mr DIY and I built this
herringbone coffee table
recently and I'm loving the warm vibe it adds to this room. We are not
builders but we worked together to figure it out (with Mr DIY's measuring
skills and my eye for style we make a good team) ❤ If you're interested, you

here and while that looks like stain, it's not! I did something even easier
and less smelly and it turned out great!
Above the sofa are a pair of
arched skinny chalkboards
and a vintage window. To add warm and natural Fall colors, I hung two small
dried wheat wreaths
as well as the
beaded Fall wreath
I made this year. It has a removable swag that can be changed out for the

I love to decorate with vintage books but rarely find them.
My thrifty tip is to shop thrift stores for hard cover books in colors that
match your home.
A local thrift store sells hard cover books for only $1! I've stocked up on
several and I'll show you more in a bit.
The pumpkin is a recent DIY using one of those garish orange dollar store foam
pumpkins! Be watching for that tutorial to hit the blog soon! In the meantime,

When I shared my
Fall mantel
this year, I included this easy layered pumpkin centerpiece. The pumpkin is
one I whipped up in about 15 minutes, although I've since changed the stem.
I'll be sharing a video tutorial for both in the next couple of weeks. I
wrapped a beaded garland with my DIY fluffy dollar store farmhouse tassels
around the pumpkin. It was so quick and easy to do! Any large wreath can work
as your base, or you can even use a
round wood tray.
Mr DIY and I scored big at the Nashville Flea Market a few years ago when we
lived in Tennessee. We came home with not one, but TWO chippy vintage doors
for a total of $15! One of the vintage doors was hung in our laundry room in
Tennessee (see that
here ), and the other one just leans against the wall and has been moved various
times around our home. Yep - there's my beaded wreath again! I can't decide
where I like it best 😍❤
On a recent anniversary trip, Mr DIY convinced me to purchase a grandfather
clock we found at a thrift store. It was only $25 but needed a ton of work to
make it look this good. You can see the makeover I gave the clock here . A piece like this is fun because even though it no longer chimes, it is a
statement piece - and a conversation piece when we have guests over! I filled
it up with books but I also like to put a large faux plant or
tall basket
inside.

Our living room shares a double sided fireplace with our sunroom, which I'll
show you in a minute. The large brick fireplace divides the rooms and when we
moved into our home 5 years ago, it was very dated and dirty. I spent a couple
hours totally transforming it with chalk paint (click
here
to see how I did it) and it has changed the whole feel of this space! We love
the lighter look!
I'm always tweaking things, and just the addition of a
woven orange pumpkin
and a few dried leaves from the backyard to this old pickle crock makes it say
"Fall's here!"
Let's head to the sunroom and I'll show you how I decorate it for Fall.
Those farmhouse floors run throughout our home, and we love not having carpet!
Mr DIY and our son installed them all a couple years ago and they have held up

The two end walls in our sunroom have
peel and stick reclaimed wood walls. We love the texture and warmth they add, you can see how we installed the
walls here. I recently moved my cottage white dresser
to the wood wall and love it there! This was a tired looking dresser I found
at a thrift store in Florida. It had lots of veneer missing and smoke damage,
but I love how it looks today!
We don't have a guest room in our home, so the
vintage inspired daybed we added to this space acts as an extra bed for overnight guests. It
also serves us well as another cozy spot to read a book and cuddle with
Millie! The buttery yellow velvet pillows were a FB Marketplace purchase, and
have quickly become a fave! 💛
It's a great space, and you can imagine how warm and cozy it is when we've got
a fire going in the winter!
This little reading spot in the corner is next to our fiddle leaf fig trees
that started life in the throw-away pile at Home Depot! Mr DIY rescued them
for me, and I have faithfully watered them once a week. They love all the
light in this space.
