Create your own chippy charm I've long been drawn to the charm and warmth of old stuff, and I admit to a little jealousy when I see friends share the gorgeous vintage and antiques they've found for a song. If you long to create that timeworn feeling in your home, but you're limited by your budget or geography, I hope you're inspired by the way I've created chippy charm in my own home and try some of these projects yourself!

It is time for the Lifestyle of Love hop, hosted by Cindy of County Road 407. I took a break for several months as we were packing up to move. Now that we've landed and are somewhat settled, I'm excited to be back. You can read more about our family's journey HERE. If you hopped over from Lora at Lora Bloomquist welcome. I know you enjoyed seeing her chippy treasures, she finds such goodies!

Today is all about CHIPPY goodness and my mind immediately went a hundred different directions because this is a topic that I love! I've narrowed it down to chippy whites in Fall decor. You'll be able to see everyone's chippy ideas at the end, so stick around.

Chippy Whites for Fall - and Creating DIY Chippy Pieces for Less

I haven't found many authentic chippy white pieces in my lifetime...there have been a few, and these are some of my favorites. However, I've figured out the best way to DIY a chippy look in free, thrifted or inexpensive finds that can help you to create that warm, inviting, nostalgic feel in your own home.

Chippy white chairs

Mr DIY groans every time I bring home a new chair, but I just can't help myself. Thrift stores, the side of the road, FB Marketplace - all are great places to score chairs that just need a little love.

The chairs you find might already be white and chippy-ed, like the ones below, or you may have to do a little chippy DIY on them to get the look you're after. My chippy DIY process is essentially the same, whether I'm working on furniture or decorative objects.

Designer tip: Your fall decor can be subtle, just a few touches of warmth (think baskets, wood, fall stems, and throws) that play so nicely with chippy whites.

Thrifty tip for upholstered pieces
This antique chair was purchased from a yard sale for $25. It was in rough shape, but the lines and carving were too beautiful to pass up. I thought I'd be able to recover it myself, haha! See the thousands of grommets? And the seat cushion filled with horsehair that's falling out? Read on for my thrifty solution.

How did I afford to have this chair professionally recovered? I brought in a chenille bedspread, and purchased 3 yards of blue and white ticking. When you provide your own fabrics, most upholsterers will only charge you for labor. I felt that $350 was well worth it for a stunning chair that I'll be able to hand down to my kids.

So what makes this chair chippy? In this case, it isn't paint. I left the wood alone and just cleaned it. It's old, weathered, and yes, slightly chippy in places where the stain has worn off. I think it's just perfect!

Chippy white dressers

I may have a thing for dressers and cabinets, along with chairs 😄 Mr DIY is always saying, "How many hutches do you have now?" Notice he doesn't say "we"...they're definitely all mine!

You just saw a pic of this upright antique dresser, but it's my favorite so here she is again! This beauty wasn't really a steal at $150 because it was covered in a weird, lumpy melted stain (probably fire damage). She really needed to be save though, so I invested some time and painted her white. With new hardware, isn't she a beauty? You can read the process of this Cottage chippy white dresser makeover here.

Here's another dresser I painted to give it a antique look. This beauty was on the curb, up the hill and around the corner. My darling Mr DIY hoofed it home on a furniture dolly 😇❤ Oh how I love that man! Read all my tips for How to make a newish dresser look old here.

Chippy spindles

I adore spindles. Whether they're on furniture or not, there are just so many ways to use spindles to fill your home with charm!

I've cut spindles off old chairs that I've found (that are too far gone to save), and crafted with them. See How to chippy old spindles in minutes here and several ideas for using spindles in home decor projects.

White chippy spindle bench

While walking one morning, I spotted a chippy bench at the curb. After squealingwith glee, I convinced Mr DIY to haul it home, and together we turned it into the sweetest little dog bed for Millie! I sewed a vintage style ruffle for the front. Does Millie sit there? Well no. She has to be bribed to jump up 😩 so during our latest move, we took it apart. The back piece with all the spindles is waiting in our storage unit for another project!

Chippy white apothecary cabinets

If you love vintage, you'll know these pieces are like unicorns! Long ago, Mr DIY and I visited an antique store and he bought me a little 6-drawer cabinet. It wasn't cheap at $50, and I've been wanting to paint it white ever since lol! I finally got up my nerve last year, and gave the piece a chippy white paint treatment, along with new hardware. Isn't she cute?

That same year is when Dollar Tree was selling their little wood drawers. I bought a set of six and turned them into a vintage-style apothecary cabinet. You can watch the short video tutorial HERE, and see it styled in the image below.

Chippy white window

I have loved this chippy arched window ever since Mr DIY brought it home. The church where he worked was replacing their side windows. They were going to toss the old ones (the chippy good ones!). Without even telling me he brought two windows home in the back of our Tahoe. The piece I have is just the top portion because the windows were 9 foot tall! They lay in our backyard over the winter, and the glass broke during a freeze. I've used this window in 4 houses and I haven't done a thing to it! I'm also kicking myself that I sold one of the full size windows!

Chippy white candleholder

Some of you saw this project I did last year for Pinterest Challenge. I turned a Reproduction sugar mold into a candle centerpiece.  These molds are easy to give a chippy white look to with paint. You dry brush the paint on, heavier in some sections, and once dry use a scraper to drag off some of the paint.

White chippy trunk turned coffee table

I found this beat up wood trunk at the thrift store for $4. After a couple coats of white paint, a little distressing and some new legs, it makes a great coffee table for a small space! Notice that I didn't paint over the cute hardware, but left it rusty and natural. I'm still debating whether I stain the legs or paint them white... what would you do?

Chippy white stool

You guys, I could keep going but I'll stop with this little counter stool. I scored it on Marketplace for $10. I used my chippy candle trick before painting it white, which allowed for some effortless heavy distressing and chipping.
