Looking for unique Fall and Halloween decor? This painted wood Jack hanging can add seasonal fun to your front door, and it's double-sided! Easy and inexpensive to make with dollar store and basic craft supplies. I'll show you how to make it.

How to make a double-sided block printed pumpkin hanging

You'll need a few basic supplies for this seasonal decoration. If you're a crafter then you likely already have many of the needed supplies in your stash. I'm a big believer in using what you have, so get creative and think outside the box and make it your own!

Supplies:

*Note: I used chalk paints because they cover well and dry quickly, but you could also use acrylic paints if that's what you have on hand.

Directions

I don't have step by step directions in picture form because I was video taping this project for my Instagram channel. I'll share the video tutorial a little further down.

Step 1 - Paint

Paint both sides of the wood hanging if you're planning to make your decoration double-sided. Let the first side dry completely before flipping it over and painting the other side. One coat should be sufficient.

Step 2 - Wax

Because I used black chalk paint on the Halloween side of my hanging, it dries very matte. The dark brown wax adds a layer of protection as well as a little sheen and dimension. Painted products that will be hanging outside should always be protected with a top coat. You could use a clear spray top coat, which is less costly than the wax.

Step 3 - Stamp

To create the block print look on the Fall side of the hanging, I stamped the same oak leaf in offset rows across the entire front of the pumpkin.

Next, to give it a vintage look, I rubbed the edges of the wood hanging with the brown ink and worked a little dark wax over the whole entire thing, rubbing it in with a lint free rag.

Step 4 - Layered Bow

A layered bow created from ribbon scraps is a great way to create a nice and full bow very easily! As you'll see in the video, it's as simple as stacking ribbons on top of one another and then securing them with a knot.

Decorating Ideas

As some of you know, we recently moved and are renting a home for the short term. Most of my stuff is currently in storage, including my Fall wreaths.

To get creative, and use what I had, I layered the finished seasonal hanging over a DIY oversized boxwood wreath on my front door.

It's simple to flip it to the Halloween side.

I will probably add white stickers to spell "BOO" for Halloween.

But why limit yourself to just outdoors? It's easy to hang inside as well. It would be cute hanging from the front of a mirror, or a antique cabinet like I've done here.
